Since you have to diet, change your eating habits and lose weight to have the surgery why even bother with the surgery? Just get control of your eating and exercising. Seems silly to have surgery for something you could deal with WITHOUT surgery. Otherwise – get the surgery, keep your old habits and you will be just as fat in 2 years.

My wife was just prescribed several different medications and one of them is Strattera. Through her Medicare plan it is a $ 75 copay. We can’t afford it. My son is also taking medication for ADHD and I am taking pain medications and will be getting treated for sleep apnea soon and possible knee surgery. Can someone point me in the right direction for assistance with this medication.

A close friend of mine claims an aneurysm was discovered on an X-ray in 1999 after a car wreck. He is 65 years old. He has not had surgery or treatment for it. If this is true, how is it that it hasn’t disected. I had a cousin half his age (32 years old) who died immediately from an anuerysm. My friend also had gotten “messages from God” in the past that he was going to pass away in a certain month, which didn’t happen. He says his being here after that are “extensions from God”. He also told me the Lord was going to take me home to Heaven by age 47 (now I’m 48). Aslo, he told me that God was going to bring judgment on a handy man in March 2009 that had been stealing and threatening him, which did not happen either.

He used to call me on the telephone every night and we talked for about three to four hours (not always about my church) and I was getting very annoyed.

He also has had for many years:

Congestive heart failure
Severe asthma
Cellulitis of the legs
Sleep apnea
Obesity (well over 300 pounds)

Given all these conditions at once, how has he survived for so long unless it’s for the reason I stated? Since 2002 he had kept telling me his time was “short” until two years ago. He has stopped telling me that because he knows I won’t believe him anymore. Am I wrong in being skeptical about his sicknesses and thinking he is either a hypochondriac or being deceived by an evil spirit.

He is definitely hypochondriac. It’s a mental illness of a sorts. He is not being deceived by an evil spirit. He is just trying to get attention with these so called “messages from god”. Either that or he is insane.

Okay, so last year I miscarried at 6 weeks – but I didn’t even find out I was pregnant for sure until I was in the middle of misscarrying (took tests religiously everday for weeks, never registered positive until 1 day into the miscarriage) – if you read back on my questions about a year ago, I had about 10 x-rays to my stomach around implantation, and 3 weeks later began to bleed heavily. I blamed the x-rays all this past year, up until the other day when I got to thinking about SLEEP APNEA and pregnancy…..there is a chance I am pregnant right now, but this had NEVER crossed my mind until recently. It would make sense right?? A woman quits breathing 59 times an hour while she’s sleeping – that’s a part of EVERY minute, every hour….so it’s cutting off oxygen to the placenta…..anyone ever stopped and thought about this before??….Now I’m almost 100 percent sure it caused my miscarriage last year, and am terrified this time around. If I am pregnant I would be 4 1/2 – 5 weeks and I don’t go back for my cpap (breathing maching) fitting until this friday, and then it will take another 10 days after that before I can get my machine from the Medical Supply store…that’s IF sleep apnea caused the miscarriage a year ago….what do you think?

Actually, my wife developed sleep apnea during pregnancy (found out in third trimester), so we were naturally concerned. Even got the sleeping mask / cpap machine (quite late). We were concerned about oxygen levels as well, but not miscarriage. We were more worried about fetal growth retardation, birth defects/brain damage and things of that sort. Everything turned out perfectly fine.

There has been no research found linking sleep apnea to miscarriage yet. However, there are studies linking sleep apnea to fetal growth retardation. In your case, miscarriage at 6 weeks is almost definitely not because of sleep apnea. There are a handful of more likely reasons (such as chomosomal issues) for that. This early, the baby / fetus is tiny and doesn’t need much oxygen to begin with and whatever it does need it is the first one to draw it from your body. Your blood does stores oxygen, so even if you are not breathing (temporarily), your body can function. Even with sleep apnea, the oxygen saturation level is usually above 85%.

Also, at six weeks, there is no placenta to begin with. Placenta is still forming and only takes over supplying the baby with oxygen/nutrition by 10-12 weeks.

In second or third trimester (once placenta takes over), then it when you start to need worrying a lot more. Sleep apnea “may” cause slower fetal growth and complication if hypertension develops. So, you should definitely get the CPAP machine (get the auto one) for the pregnancy and use it.

If you want to minimize chance of miscarriage, take progesterone suppositories and baby aspirin for the first trimester. talk to your doctor about it.

First of all I suffer from sleep-apnea, and I use a C-Pap machine. But my problem is I keep having vivid dreams every night I go to sleep. In my dreams I’m always engaged in some kind of physical activity like walking, running, swimming, climbing,working, and in the morning I wake up very exhausted. Is there some kind of remedy or treatment for this.

I would suggest you contact the physician that prescribed the C-Pap.
If you don’t any drugs it may be a side effect from the C-Pap

My daughter was diagnosed with Reflux about 3 weeks ago, she had lots of pain but not very sick,,, she’s now on medication for this and its helped a lot. The problems now is she turns blue and stops breathing it has happened3 times in the last week, it’s so scary watching your child stop breathing, luckily she has always started her self of again, the hospital doctor says its part of reflux but im not convinced. The times this has happened she has been asleep, i was wondering if it could be sleep apnea……

my friends child has the same problem. they told her she had to take him to a lung dr. cause there could be damage done to her lungs causing problems.

diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestrol, sleep apnea, asthma and poor bladder control? I have been researching this procedure and it seems you have to jump through hoops to qualify. My Doctor wants me to have it and my insurance covers it.

I have a lot of sleep issues. Insomnia, severe obstructive sleep apnea and delayed sleep phase syndrome. I’d like to work in the realms of sleep. I’m curious as to what I ought to major in to do this. I’m currently considering biochemistry as the university I’m attending doesn’t have a biomedical engineering undergraduate program.

Anybody with some insight would be much appreciated.
After digging through the academic programs at my university (Northern Arizona University), I found the Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Science. While it’s not an engineering degree, it does seem promising.

I’m reading about the masters programs at various universities, specifically Stanford University. They write in their admissions requirements:
“Students will be expected to enter with a series of core competencies in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, computing, and engineering.”

However, they don’t explain what they mean by competencies in computing and engineering. Can anybody tell me what they mean by this? It sounds rather cryptic and non-specific.

if my throat dont open at 3 lpm it was mean 93% then a drop for 55 min lowest 63% then ?? they said to bump to 5lpm…i just notice i been tired alot in the past week..cant stay asleep..my point is if the throat is closed the how will 5 lpm get it done??? plese anwer were i can understand it all thanks..
settings 18/10 will a bi pap keep you breathing if you had respatry distress..

They didn’t increase the pressure to keep your throat open, just increased the amount of oxygen you’re getting (from 3liters to 5 liters) This will help get your oxygen levels up (it went down to 63%? …that’s pretty low, good thing they’re checking. Your oxygen levels should be 90% or more in general) The switch from CPAP to BiPAP might also help.
