Question by Valentine: MY boyfriend is type 2 diabetic, he is eats well but lately is very depressed?
He is 48, in good health basically, except for his depression, he has 2 doctors all they do is give him more drugs, I tell him he needs to exercise, we need to turn a negative into a postive. We don’t fight, yell, scream, we do love each other, it seems as if I’m the only 1 he wants to be around. He can’t even leave the house sometimes it takes him a couple of days. I wait, give much understanding, I don’t push him into an arguement. What I will do like tonight he wasn’t even answering the phone to even talk to his daughter. I politely asked him what was wrong he said he didn’t know wanted to go to bed. So we went to bed I wait untll he is asleep, cause he does have sleep apnea, needs a cpap machine. If this has to do with being a diabetic, depression, he also seems to be on the verge of breakdown. I love him, very much in love with him, but I know I can’t cure him, nor make him better. All I seem to do is just listen to him, it comes and goes.

Answer by kris b I am so sorry you are going through this. Depression is very hard. He needs some help. Can you go to a counselor and talk together if he needs someone there, or by him self? The american diabetes association has a page on depression. http://www.diabetes.org/type-2-diabetes/depression.jsp
there may be some helpful information there. The best thing you can do is just support him, and listen to his concerns. Let him know that you are there for him.

Question by Sporty25: Is not eating, causing my friend to not sleep that much as well?
My friend started this workout plan w/ her personal trainer at her gym. But all I see her eat is power bars and fruitsnacks. Nothing to much that qualifies for an actual meal. She has been working out ALOT, and she has lost a significant amount of weight which is good but she is not that fat to begin with. Im afraid she is over doing it because of stressful events in her life that have occured, mainly a guy problem. She actually went to a doctor 2 weeks ago for her sleeping disorder because she is only getting 2-3 hours a night of sleep. What is wrong with her? She is trying to be all healthy but many friends see and feel she is not eating that well and not eating is making her not sleep. What can she do to get over this? I really feel she has a big problem.

Answer by Vandy* Eating less causes you to have less energy. Having less energy causes you to sleep more.
