You need to start with a General Practitioner or Internist who can refer you to a specialist.

Question by Valentine: MY boyfriend is type 2 diabetic, he is eats well but lately is very depressed?
He is 48, in good health basically, except for his depression, he has 2 doctors all they do is give him more drugs, I tell him he needs to exercise, we need to turn a negative into a postive. We don’t fight, yell, scream, we do love each other, it seems as if I’m the only 1 he wants to be around. He can’t even leave the house sometimes it takes him a couple of days. I wait, give much understanding, I don’t push him into an arguement. What I will do like tonight he wasn’t even answering the phone to even talk to his daughter. I politely asked him what was wrong he said he didn’t know wanted to go to bed. So we went to bed I wait untll he is asleep, cause he does have sleep apnea, needs a cpap machine. If this has to do with being a diabetic, depression, he also seems to be on the verge of breakdown. I love him, very much in love with him, but I know I can’t cure him, nor make him better. All I seem to do is just listen to him, it comes and goes.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Depression is very hard. He needs some help. Can you go to a counselor and talk together if he needs someone there, or by him self? The american diabetes association has a page on depression. http://www.diabetes.org/type-2-diabetes/depression.jsp
there may be some helpful information there. The best thing you can do is just support him, and listen to his concerns. Let him know that you are there for him.

Question by Bill D: Are there any new type CPAP masks (for sleep apnea)?
For those of us with sleep apnea its very hard to obtain info on new apnea products.

Best answer:

Answer by 3B69
I have Sleep Apnea, but I depend on my Dr., who also has Sleep Apnea, to suggest what masks to use. We just got done fitting me for a new mask and after 9 years I am finally getting a new machine, with warm air mist. Here is the web link the national sleep apnea organization. They have a forum that can possibly answer any specific questions you may have.
http://www.sleepapnea.org/
And here is the google search.

Question by Ripper460: Anyone know what type of illness I have?
Hi. I am trying to figure what kind of illness that I am having and the doctors doesn’t seem to help. I’ve done many test and haven’t gotten to the point of what it is. So far the symptoms I am having is really low energy and not able to do things that I normally do, and always sleeping more than 8 hours sometimes it can be 13 hours straight. When I spoke to my doctors they thought I had problems with my thyroid and when I took the test it proved negative. Then I saw a sleep specialist and did 2 type of test a multiple latency test and a test where u have to sleep overnight all they found was sleep apnea one is obtrusive and the other is central and also periodic limb movement disorder. I also had to do the cpap test and that didnt help either. Nonetheless even with the medication they gave hasn’t worked…Someone tell me if they know what type of illness I have. Then I thought I had the chornica fatique syndrome or the Epstein-Barr virus , but I am unsure of it. What should I do?
I also did an Iron level test, and found that I am not anemic, but rather have too much Iron in my blood so far I’ve seen a total of 3 doctors. Also did a blood test for my blood sugar and saw that I was still in the safe zone and am not diabetic.
I’ve tried to do many things even changing my diet. I once weighed 180lbs and now weigh at 150lbs took me long enough I even did exercise but it was so hard to do them because I would give out too quick. I would feel so weak that I can’t even do a 10 min exercise. It’s like my muscles dont have any strength in them to lift something up .
No I dont get any arm pains when I comb my hair, but I just feel weak when I lift it its like my arm feels very weak I dont know any other way to explain it.
You know that is an interesting disease that is possible that I may have it cause all the symptoms do match for the muscle weakness. I dont know if it had anything to do with creatine I once took creatine to get bulkier.
These are all wonderful responses I will keep them in mind and make sure to do them. Also yes I have seen a psychologist and psychiatrist regarding depression and anxiety disorders just wanted to add this to my details to get a better idea of the situation.

Maybe get a second or third opinion. Just because your doctor thinks one thing or didn’t find anything doesn’t’ mean he/she is right. It never hurts to get another view/opinion. Maybe they’d consider something your doctor isn’t. They don’t call it practicing medicine for nothing. Also maybe your anemic?

Question by you: What type of sleep disorder does this sound like?
ive had sleep problems in the past in which ive been forced to wake myself up from a dream because of feelings of fear or terror, but i do not gasp or scream like when someone has night terrors.

also when this happens my head feels very heavy, and before i wake up from the dream its as though my head is trembling before i can finally put overcome my tiredness and force myself to wake up.

whats strange is that the feelings of fear dont always come from something scary looking they just show up randomly in a dream, or ill see an image in my sleep such as that of people laughing or a window that seem to trigger this weird sleep occurence

anyone know what this could be? it happens to me every few months or so

Do you know if you snore?

If you are someone who snores, then there IS a possibility of sleep apnea. It doesn’t seem like a logical choice (being that sleep apnea occurs when a person temporarily stops breathing in his/her sleep), but there is this belief that I heard a long time ago. The belief that I heard was that if you were to be sleeping and someone came and covered your mouth and nose, it would invoke a nightmare. So, I’m wondering if something could possibly be similar. If you are sleeping and not getting enough oxygen to your brain, it COULD cause something like that.

It might be something to take to a sleep specialist.
