Question by : Snore treatments, what are a waste of money?
I was looking in Boots (the chemist/pharmicist) and there were throat sprays, an acupuncture ring and of course a mouth piece thing you wear to realign your jaw. Are these treatments, well the spray and ring just manufacturers playing on people’s insecurities to make money or are they worth a go? I don’t have sleep apnea by the way.
I know I don’t have sleep apnea because I took this pack home and it tested me while I was sleeping. Apparently, I scored 8 out of 40 and so had very mild sleep apnea. Consequently, the doctor said I should go and see the ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist) . The ENT doc said i could try the mouth guard thing made up by dentist. i do have TMJ problem though so not too optimistic about that.

Question by pennypincher: Do sleep apnea treatments help someone if their sleep apnea is caused by chronic phlegm?
My husband says I snore sometimes and don’t sleep sound. Due to allergies, I have phlegm quite frequently and I think that is my problem. Will the c-pap machine do any good if that is the problem?

Answer by Bradley Whitehead I think it COULD help in theory, i mean it’s a forced air system right? You’d probably be best off treating the source of the apnea, because in your specific case sleep apnea (and snoring) seem to just be a symptom of your allergies and congestion. Talk to your doctor about a nighttime decongestant for long term use.
You probably don’t want to use the over the counter nighttime decongestants for a very extended period of time because they’re made with ephedrine or pseudophedrine, which isn’t good to take every day for a long time.

Question by phildirt84: Fatigue is ruining my life. Are you aware of any facilities, experimental treatments, or clinical studies?
It’s been three years. My CPAP machine (sleep apnea) does not seem to be helping. I have no personal or social life due to having lost interest in everything. My work life is to the point where I cannot function fully and will likely lose my job without improvement in my health.
My family doctor, endocrinologist, neurologist, and a psychiatrist have not found any answers.
Are you aware of any facilities who can take as much time as needed to check everything (head to toe). I am willing to be part of any experimental treatments or clinical studies.
I need help. This is no way for anyone to live. I have no problem knowing that I have a medical situation… but not knowing what the situation is and what can be done about it feels like a form of torture.
Any info you can share would be appreciated.
I am in northeast Ohio.

Answer by formerly_bob This sounds like a very frustrating situation. I don’t have any great insight, but have you considered that the fatigue may be caused at least partly by depression? Antidepressants like Wellbutrin can really make a big difference in people that have no energy due to depression.

Question by ken7142128: I have sleep apnea. What are the best treatments for this problem and are there any new treatments?
Best answer:
Answer by cyanne2ak There are several treatments available for sleep apnea. Talk to your physician. Yes, there are new treatments. I suggest you go to a sleep center for treatment. There is a great program in Atlanta, and another in Seattle. As for the “best” treatment, it is very individualized and depends on you.
What do you think? Answer below!

Question by OneOfTheGoodOnes: Can anyone recommend treatments of sleep apnea?
I live in Seattle. My sleep doctor has prescribed a Bi-PAP and I use it, but he will not do his job. He knows it isn’t producing good results. He mentions no “out-of-network” providers or alternatives. He doesn’t address all the problems I’m having. I have increased the pressure settings, with his knowledge, and am getting a second opinion from Virginia Mason Sleep Clinic. Apria, as a DME, is unacceptable. Numerous machines they provided, all Respironics, have broken. I dug up Lincare, on my own and went to their Seattle office last week. They fixed my mask, told me of other products I had learned of in the past few weeks on my own -without my asking. The bulk of my info on apnea and its treatment has come from newsgroups and sites dedicated to sleep disorders.
I use a saline solution daily.
Does ANYONE have ANY ideas or know of any other providers, DMEs, etc who can help? Please excuse the shouting & please help.
