On Oxygen 24/7’s, Bi-Pap Machine at night. Had previous back surgery (clean-up ruptured disk). Surgeon is suggesting Spinal w/Mild Sedation, Nerve Block in croin area. Would scare tissue in the lower back create problems for a Spinal?

I think your best bet is to talk to the anesthesiologist. He’s the one who will do your sedation. I had a spinal and had no after effects from it so I highly recommend that instead of being put under. I was also mildly sedated but woke up towards the end of the procedure but didn’t feel anything. But I would definitely check with him to see what your risks are since you have so much to deal with. I hope all goes well for you.

File an appeal with the insurance company, getting the doctors to re-word the diagnosis and clearly state that your condition is NOT the result of a pre-existing TMJ. Then, since you have half the money, talk to the hospital financial department. They will be very impressed at the amount you’ve saved and be willing to finance the rest. Get this done and get a lawyer to fight the insurance company if you need to for the reimbursement.

Talk to your doctor and see if there is a support group type thing for children and surgery. Maybe if she talks to other children who have had surgery (any type) maybe she would feel better.

Will insurance cover your surgery automaticlly if you have, Sleep Apnea, High Blood Pressure, Asthma, Joint pain, abd has been over weight all their lifes?

I do know that most insurance plans require 6 months diet plan too and by my DR. the suregery is medically necessary for me to have.

I didn’t have the bypass, but I did have the gastric waistband which is less painful and reversible. Insurance, at least in my country, did not cover it because a) I didn’t have any at the time and b) It was considered (back then about 3 years ago) it wasn’t considered to be for health reasons, more for looking good. I don’t regret it however, because since I’ve had it I have lost about 90 pounds and I’m still losing weight.
There are days when you can’t swallow solids, but most of the time you can eat just about anything except for red meat because if it’s not properly cooked it may too hard.
Anyway, it has totally changed my life, but that’s just me.
My cousin did have the bypass and the weight loss is faster but it takes a toll on your body and it is nonreversible.
You decide what is the best for you, but my advice is to go for the lapband (that’s the medical name for it). Trust me, it will hurt from time to time, but it will definitely be worth it.

Go for liposuction, 100 pounds at a time, and of course you will get doctors’ advice before he undertakes such a radical weight loss solution, as it can be dangerous.

You’re not crazy. I had a very similar experience. It happened to me after two different surgeries.

Waking up on a ventilator is traumatizing. It was very frightening for me.

You are probably suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. This is a normal reaction to what you’ve experienced.

Aside from the physical pain, you are also having emotional pain. It’s being projected as pervasive fear.

It may be time for you to ask your doctor about a medication for an anxiety disorder. I personally worked these feelings out on my own, but if you feel that it’s actually taking control of your life, then you do need to seek help.

I wish you well. Just remember, if you don’t deal with it, you will not get over it.

I guess I just need some people who went through the same thing to tell me the negetives and positives about this surgery. Let me know what age your child was at the time as well and how they reacted to it.

We took my son at age 5 – the difference was immediate! As soon as he was sleeping, no more snoring, no more sleep apnea. It was the absolute best thing I could have done. And, they didn’t have to mess with his adenoids at all, just his tonsils and it took about 20 minutes. Nothing bad happened and he was great! He didn’t remember leaving the hospital, but was fine enough to eat pizza the next day. Absolutely no side effect either. Oh, and we had to pay cash because he wasn’t sick all the time (just sleep apnea and snoring) and insurance wouldn’t cover it. We took him to a ENT specialist and he said he’d schedule it for the next Friday and it needed to be done right away – his airway was 90% blocked when he laid down. Best money spent ever! Even his teacher noticed he was happier, more rested, and just better all around.

You should seek a further opinion. There are a number of complications that could arise from the surgery and you need to weigh up whether the chance of complications from surgery are greater than the chance of further complications from your weight.
