Question by King Tut: I am pretty sure my dog has sleep apnea.?
I have tried using a CPAP machine on him, but when i wake up he is always just chewing on the mask. i tried adding paper to the sides to make it more for a snout and not for a nose. How can i get him to understand this is best for him and not a really expensive chew toy. also he snores and I have considered putting him down if he snores again. Thank you.

i know i need to schedule a sleep study, but the idea just makes me nervous. Also, can anyone tell me whether or not you can sleep comfortably while wearing a C-Pap mask? i don’t know how i could sleep with that on my face…

I work in the cardiology department at the local hospital. We get tons of patients who come in with sleep apnea. What I’ve heard from people is that C-pap masks are a total nuisance in the beginning but you start getting used to it and shortly it’s like it isn’t even there, I just hope you’re not a tummy sleeper! HOwever, whether it’s comfy or not, it is still STRONGLY advised to still wear one.

My girlfriend has watched me sleep, and is pretty certain I have sleep apnea. I am not insured, and a sleep study costs greater than the costs of getting a CPAP machine. So I’m thinking I might as well just order the CPAP machine, that will be necessary if the tests confirm that I have sleep apnea. What are the potential negative consequences of me just ordering a CPAP machine over the internet and treating myself?
I realize the standard is to do it through a doctor. But it’s a lot of money. And I want to see if there are any dangerous consequences to me just ordering the machine on ebay, and administering it to myself.

No, you will first have to be seen by a doctor and he has to diagnose you with sleep apnea, and then request a sleep study. You then have to go to the over night sleep study and the will send the report to the doctor and he will order the machine with the proper settings for your particular case. Hope this will help you. I also use a CPAP.

sleep doctor appt. I HAD NO SYMPTOMS TILL SHE SAID
ANYHTING. NOW I have day drowsiness all of a sudden !
Can this apnea thing be controled with weight loss?
(assuming I have it which we do not know-yet)

Im 5 9 260 male in great health 50 as of last Tue

sleep apnea is very common. it can be very dangerous to your health. a night at the sleep clinic is best. chronic daytime sleepiness is one sign.

there is a book called “the promise of sleep” you can look into. he has a scale that says the faster you fall asleep, the more likely it is you have s/a.

overweight is a factor, losing can help.

Apparantly the testing is ridiculusly expensive, even with insurance. My Dr. has perscribed me Restoril which is a heavy sleep aid. It does put me to sleep, but I wake up within a few hours after it wares off. I generally get about 3-4 hrs. of sleep a night. I am so tired I feel like crying all the time and I constantly feel sick. Does anyone have any ideas until I can afford the Apnea testing. (please don’t suggest nasal strips, they do not work). Help Me.

I snore .How do I stop this? I know that it can be harmful. Is surgery the only answer. I tried some methods. But no luck. there’s got to be a way!

The nurse is wrong.

Snoring can be caused by many things.

My bf is 34 y/o, 5′10″ 300lbs. I believe he has a serious sleep disorder, but he doesn’t want to admit it. He says it’s his weight and doesn’t get enough sleep. First of all, He sleeps ALL the time. Right now, he doesn’t work so I know that he’s not sleep deprived, over worked or getting up early. He will fall sleep during the day.morning/evening on the computer with the mouse in his hand and sometimes wake up and continue where he left off. He has fell asleep a few times on the toilet. I have caught him several times during the day, drift off while driving and me in the passenger side. He has even fallen asleep at a red light in the afternoon. He falls asleep while I’m talking to him. What has got me asking this question is that we recently had a baby (2 weeks old) and he fell asleep while holding him on the couch and dropped him!!!!!!!! I’m so upset with this I wont allow him to hold him anymore unless he is wide awake….and I don’t know when that is. One time, he slept for almost 18 hrs straight! Help!

He sometimes does not breathe while sleeping and I can hear him gasp for breathe. But even worse than this problem is that he will fall asleep sitting on the sofa, you cannot wake him up and sometimes he will start kicking his leg. He has recently kicked our glass table top coffee table breaking a plate that was sitting on the table and scratching the glass. It took forever to get him awake even after this happened.
