Question by scoot: Any sleep tips for me? Tonsils are huge and cause me to snore and stop breathing, surgery soon…?
I am in college and I have huge tonsils that basically cause me to have sleep apnea. I had a sleep study and I stopped breathing and woke up 12 times within 5 hours and never went into stage 4 sleep. I don’t sleep well at all, and when I wake up I feel like I didn’t get any sleep. I have slept through my 8 am class for 4 weeks now! I’m blessed that it doesn’t have an attendance requirement! But it is still a problem. My doctor prescribed me Lunesta which is helping a little bit but still not getting me out of bed in the morning. I am literally so tired I can’t move and feel like a dead person when I wake up. Any suggestions?
and by the way I go to bed around 9:30-10 every night so im not staying up late….
thank you!
forgot to add this, i am getting my tonsils out on november 24th… what can i do until then to get adequate rest and be able to get up in the morning?

Answer by jojo rose basically what you should do is get them removed. this is what happened to me. it took me 2 weeks to recover so you would have to think about that.

Question by : How can I help my obese brother? I swear he is going to die soon?
My brother has gained a lot of weight in the past 7 years or so. He is about 180cm tall and weighs 160kg. He’s 28 years old and has a 5 year old daughter from a previous relationship who I absolutely adore, and I’m so worried he is not going to be around to watch her grow up and be a father. He has sleep apnea, which is when he stops breathing in his sleep, and his snoring is unbearable. He falls asleep whilst driving because of this. He also is out of puff even from walking. The sad thing is, he doesn’t stop eating. I think it is emotional eating after our parents break-up. He acts like he does not care but this is really affecting his life, and when I try to tell him he needs to lose weight, especially for his daughter, he just brushes it off and continues eating and not exercising. What more can I do? The mother of his child left him, by the way..

Answer by Rebellion Maybe you could try to get your family together for an intervention—to confront the problem and set up a sort of diet-exercise plan, and maybe find someone to talk to [if his overeating has to do with emotional problems, etc.]

Question by B: I am having sleep apnea treatment soon. What can I expect to feel like after CPAP or surgery?
Best answer:
Answer by belgianlady After CPAP treatment, the apnea-hypopnea index is lower, and mean lowest SaO2 higher than before treatment. After CPAP, patients are more bradycardic, blood pressure and its standard deviation decreased as SaO2 improved in non-REM stage 2 sleep, and BRS increased (nocturnal wakefulness: +59%; non-REM stage 2 sleep: +68% over pretreatment values). Baroreflex dysfunction in OSAS may be at least partly accounted for by nocturnal intermittent hypoxemia, and can be reversed by long-term CPAP treatment.

I’ve recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea; the full diagnosis was “obstructive, central, and mixed ” I’ve been prescribed a CPAP, w/ full mask (CFlex). Guess my question is.. how soon can I expect to feel better, and just what will ‘feel better’ feel like? evidently i’ve had this for quite some time, and would appreciate hearing from someone with personal experience of treatment for same.
Thanx~
