Question by : Do I have sleep Apnea or something else? Who do I ask?
I am a 30 year old woman – who is 40lbs overweight (according to dr charts) and has moderate asthma – Often when sleeping I wake-up sweating, can feel my heart through my back, get headaches, have to use my inhaler (though it doesn’t always seem to work at night), get restless legs – and feel sluggish sometimes and have headaches for a couple of days that seem untreatable then they disappear, only to reappear later that month. The Dr. ran all kinds of tests, thyroid and such, but to no avail – she never mentioned sleep apnea, but I saw a tv special about it and both my parents have sleep apnea… The thing is that my dr never recommended that I get the sleep study, so do I go and ask for one (maybe she’ll think I’m crazy), or do I just go and get it done – I have a PPO so referrals are not necessary. TIA

Go to a specialist, who will do a sleep study on you. They have you stay at the office all night, and monitor your breathing and watch you for signs of apnea. Call your doctor or local hospital for a referal to someone in your area or check your phone book. You may need a CPAP machine if you are having apnea.

Question by Dear Jane…: Do you think this is a sleeping disorder, or is there something else wrong?
I have sometimes come to resent my husband lately because of his “sleeping disorder”. His mom diagnosed him, and I’ve done a little research, but none of his symptoms seem to fit into any of the sleeping disorders I’ve found.

He sleeps soundly, heavily -you can’t wake him up at all. If I have to get up with the baby, or his youngest son he’d never ever know. I’ve left the house before to drive the baby around and came back an hour later -never even knew I left.

By the time I’m ready to crawl back into bed after I have to get up, he’s all over my side sleeping at an angle. I can’t wake him for anything, so I have to end up punching him to get him to even move, which sometimes really upsets him. I think he wants to cry. You’d be mad too if someone punched you in your sleep, but there’s not another way to get him up! He tosses and turns all night long, asleep the entire time but I’m awake because he’s rolling all over me and doesn’t know it.

Every morning, you’d think he’s be rested since he never wakes and usually has the whole bed to himself. Instead he’s complaining how tired he is, and how he didn’t get any sleep at all. I’m so confused. I’m tired because I’m up with the baby so when I hear him say this it almost angers me because I have never done well with a lack of sleep.

His mom says this has been going on since he was a child. If he does wake up, he is NOT awake and he falls -hard, or he talks jibberesh. Last night he told me AT&T was on the phone (his cell phone rang pretty late). We don’t have AT&T, so I looked at the phone and it was his brother. It doesn’t matter how early he goes to bed, if he gets a full 7-8 hours. It doesn’t sound like sleep apnea, but he does snore very loudly so I thought it may be at first. He also talks and cusses loudly in his sleep but he doesn’t know he’s doing it, or is not able to wake up from most dreams. Any advice on how to handle this issue or what you think may cause it would be appreciated. I love him and I want him to function better, and I want to sleep and stop being angry in the morning.

Snoring very loudly can be a sign of sleep apnea. In any event, he should probably go to a sleep center for a sleep study. Some guys just aren’t morning people, but he shouldn’t be as tired as you describe after 7-8 hours of heavy sleep.

If he hesitates going, let him know how it’s affecting you, too. That might be the last bit of information to make him go.

And if he still hesitates, start throwing ice water on him every night he wakes you up ;)

Question by thatcoolboy47: sleep disorder or something?
ok im having a real hard time sleeping since 2 days ago i have always been able to sleep wonderfully with no interruptions and now every time i try to go to sleep i keep getting random thoughts in my head like words, songs playing back, imgaes, or events that are kind of like dreams but i am still awake even though my eyes are closed.what is this and how can i solve it.if it is of any importance i drank a 6 hour power the first day that this started to happen but i drank it in the morning like at 11:30.thanks in advance
I only drank the energy drink once and it was the first day that this happened to me.It really frustrates me its like if i cant clear my mind to go to sleep. i keep having thoughts, words, images playing in my head

Best answer:

Answer by Amanda R
asuming this is the first time you drank that I would start with never doing that again. However sometimes up coming events or even current events can cause a shift in your ability to sleep. If the problem goes on talk to your doc…
