On Oxygen 24/7’s, Bi-Pap Machine at night. Had previous back surgery (clean-up ruptured disk). Surgeon is suggesting Spinal w/Mild Sedation, Nerve Block in croin area. Would scare tissue in the lower back create problems for a Spinal?

I think your best bet is to talk to the anesthesiologist. He’s the one who will do your sedation. I had a spinal and had no after effects from it so I highly recommend that instead of being put under. I was also mildly sedated but woke up towards the end of the procedure but didn’t feel anything. But I would definitely check with him to see what your risks are since you have so much to deal with. I hope all goes well for you.

Question by Jessica G: Taking beta blockers for SVT & I also have Sleep Apnea – Am I risk of Sudden Aryth Death Syndrome?
Please help. I have SVT and I am currently awaiting a further appointment following my test result for sleep apnea.
Can you die of Sudden Arythmic Death Syndrome or Sleep Apnea whilst taking Beta Blockers? Am I at risk?
I take a mild 1.25 mg of bisoprolol beta blocker, as any more than that reduces my blood pressure. (Symptoms of my SVT are very infrequent on medication. Cardiologist recommended ablation butI’m too scared. He stated that SVT is nothing to worry about but the internet suggests otherwise )
I will truly appreciate your advice please!
I am 30, slim and have a healthy lifestyle

Hi I too have SVT and mild sleep apnea, had an ablation done to stop the misdirected signals. You need to stop worrying about it. Since you are seen by cardiologist he or she is following your medical condition. Its called sudden cardiac death syndrome. Your taking beta blockers will help control the SVT’s. Are you watching your sodium/salt intake?? Are you on a breathing machine, CPAP, while sleeping(for sleep apnea)? How is your potassium level? Are you staying hydrated?

Question by Lauren R: Husband at risk for sleep apnea?
My 27 year old husband went for a physical today and the doctor told him he is at risk for sleep apnea because of the structure of his throat and neck. What are some things we can do to help this situation and lessen the chances of something serious happening?
He is only a few pounds overweight, and yes, he snores a lot.

you might want to consider having him get a sleep study done to make sure that he doesn’t already have sleep apnea. pretty much they’ll put him in a bed in a clinic for a night hooked up to monitors to make sure he breathes. or, if he falls asleep before you, just listen and see if he has a steady breathing pattern.
my dads doctor told him that he was also “at risk”, but once he did the sleep study they discovered he would stop breathing for about 1 minute 45 seconds at a time during the night. if you go past 2 minutes, you usually don’t wake up.
if he does have it, they will give him a device to give him oxygen in the night while he is sleeping. if he is heavy-set, losing a few pounds could help. if he snores alot when he sleeps he is more at risk.
good luck!

Risks for sleep apnea..well worst case, Death
rememdies, their are tons of “homemade” remedies. some people put tennis balls in socks and sleep with that behind their neck at night. The best thing is to wear a CPAP machine. this machine hooks to a mask and you wear the mask. they make full face (which covers mouth and nose), nose masks (which only cover the nose) and nasal cushions which fit right inside the nostril. The machine creates a constant pressure which helps keep the airway open. Thus preventing you from going apneic. You should notice a huge difference in your lifestyle. These machines let people get rest and sleep without being woke up by snoring or by lake of oxygen.
hope this helps
