Question by bhavik15: Do I have sleep apnea? Is it really that serious?
well from some of the research that i have done,
it shows that i have symptoms of it
well just recently i had an “episode”
and also i was able to recreate it
it was a pretty odd experience
just before that i had a dream that this women told me to say these words(i cant remember) it seems that i was lucid dreaming and when i said those words is when the episode happened, also after i woke up i
did something that made me be able to recreate it(it felt like i had died, my hands fell to their sides and i passed out, for a lil while, i dont know how long)
idk if i should take this seriously, i havent told anyone because im pretty sure they wouldnt believe me

Answer by casdave2001 My friend, sometimes the boundary between sleep and wakefulness gets muddled. That’s what this sounds like. You probably don’t have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea patients rarely dream. and you’re having these very vivid ones. You probably didn’t “pass out”, you just went back to sleep. Don’t forget that in lucid dreaming you can “wake up” in another reality or even the same reality and still be dreaming. You don’t say what it is you did to “recreate” the dream.
Anyway it was just a dream and not something for you to be concerned about.
Dreams aren’t real, prophetic or anything but just that, dreams. Don’t ascribe any more importance to them.
God bless you and keep you healthy.

Question by slik: Can I just order a CPAP machine if I’m pretty sure I have sleep apnea? Do I really need a dr. sleeping study?
My girlfriend has watched me sleep, and is pretty certain I have sleep apnea. I am not insured, and a sleep study costs greater than the costs of getting a CPAP machine. So I’m thinking I might as well just order the CPAP machine, that will be necessary if the tests confirm that I have sleep apnea. What are the potential negative consequences of me just ordering a CPAP machine over the internet and treating myself?
I realize the standard is to do it through a doctor. But it’s a lot of money. And I want to see if there are any dangerous consequences to me just ordering the machine on ebay, and administering it to myself.

Answer by nickie_2free No, you will first have to be seen by a doctor and he has to diagnose you with sleep apnea, and then request a sleep study. You then have to go to the over night sleep study and the will send the report to the doctor and he will order the machine with the proper settings for your particular case. Hope this will help you. I also use a CPAP.

Question by meanersbeaners: My husband has a sleep disorder I am really concerned about him?
My husband works in a high stress environment and completely hates his job. He has worked there for almost two years and makes quite a bit of money before taxes but then after taxes doesn’t bring home a whole lot. Lately it has not only taken a toll on his attitude and mood but his sleep as well. He is off work on the weekend and works during the weekday from 8:00 to 5:00. But on the weekends he gets up between 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning. Last night we both didn’t get to bed until 12:30 and he was up bright and early at 6:30 this morning. I have tried talking to him and he says he just can’t sleep but I can see complete exhaustion in his face and tell he’s tired. What can I do for him? What are the affects of not getting enough sleep?

Answer by katrina I don’t think this is even close to a sleep disorder! The man is sleeping…maybe not what you are used to…but many of us get up even earlier and function just fine. With all the stress he is under, he should be thankful he is even sleeping as much as he is. When I get up early…(always..as sleeping in to me is 7am!) I am either doing things to get them out of the way for later, or simply taking time for me! Could be walking in the neighborhood, going to the gym…reading with a cup of coffee..etc.
Has he tried looking for another job? Maybe even considering a diff job will give him some hope/relief so that he can feel less stressed. None of us are stuck…it’s all in our mindset. Finding a few things that are good or ‘ok’ about his current job would be a start and in the meantime start thinking about what he’d enjoy doing more, or if he could change circumstances at his current job, what would they be? Attitude is everything.
Last but not least…some b-vitamins will help with stress…sleep too. Also some calcium aftre dinner…yogurt or whatever he likes can help sooth nervous sytem as well.
Good luck!

Question by Book Worm: My husband is making really weird noises at night?
Occasionally I wake up to my husband making very strange, terrifying noises. I wouldn’t say they were wheezing sounds, but when he breathes in its loud and sounds painful. The first time I heard it I thought it was a cat or a baby crying. I wake him up every time, and he just apologizes and goes back to sleep. He isn’t short of breath, and doesn’t seem to really have any symptoms of Sleep Apnea. What could it be? (He doesn’t have asthma, but he does get allergies sometimes).

Answer by christophsworld Your husband would wake up himself if it were asthma symptoms. There are different levels of sleep apnea as well as other sleep disorders. You might him do a sleep study to get an official diagnosis.

Question by trextonte: I REALLY need CPAP equipment for my sleep apnea!?
I had a sleep study done, and I stop breathing 35 x per hour. That’s not too bad (yet), but it’s not easy to function some days when I’m tired from lack of QUALITY sleep. Of course, my insurance, doesn’t cover medical equipment (great, huh? – they’ll diagnose ya, but they won’t help cure ya!!).Does anyone have any info on who I can contact for free / used / deep discounted CPAP equipment? I know I need to get a new mask, and hoses. I’ve tried hospitals, and American Red Cross, with no luck.
