Question by ken7142128: I have sleep apnea. What are the best treatments for this problem and are there any new treatments?

Answer by cyanne2ak
There are several treatments available for sleep apnea. Talk to your physician. Yes, there are new treatments. I suggest you go to a sleep center for treatment. There is a great program in Atlanta, and another in Seattle. As for the “best” treatment, it is very individualized and depends on you.

Question by borednowtn: Who should I see about breathing/snoring problem?
I am stuffed up a lot. Medicine like mucinex helps me breathe a lot better. I snore a lot at night. I guess I might have sleep apnea. I guess I think the root of the problem for me could be some kind of allergy or deviated septum. I am overweight. When i was in good shape I still had the same problem, just not quite as pronounced. I know i can have a sleep study done. Should I just try and get into see an ENT. I want to do whatever it takes to get as good as possible. I have heard about oging to ENT’s, going to allergysts, or going to have a sleep study done. What should I do first? For background I know that I snored in high school, I am not really sure about as a child, no one said anything if I did. Basically I think I havbe had a lot of sinus problems, it was chronic at one point (I might have had sinusitis, but I am not sure, I started taking mucinex and it took care of the cronic stuffiness) thanks for the help

Question by Shannon: Anyone else have this problem with their preemie?
My daughter Mila just came home 6 days ago after being in the hospital for a month and a half. Since she’s been home, she won’t sleep in her bassinet. She will only sleep in her car seat, and only if there are blankets rolled up surrounding her. She has an apnea monitor and it gets tangled on the blankets at night, well the amount of time she sleeps, like 30 minutes at a time, and I am afraid it may get tangled to the point where it is unresponsive. The doctor advised me to put her in a preemie halo sack (she weighs 3lbs 15oz.) and lay her flat in her bassinet with the angle pillow under the matress. She did sleep in it for one day, and now she won’t. What can I do to solve this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!
She can not be swaddled because of the apnea monitor. The cord has to go on her chest. So the doctor told us already we couldn’t and even if we did and it allowed the cord to be on her chest, it wouldn’t be effective. Thanks though!

ask your doctor if you can swaddle her. you can take her to the hospital and the nurses will show you how. my son was a terrible sleeper and needed to be swaddled for a year…lol. he wasn’t a preeme though so ask your doctor if it’s safe first.

someone suggested to use blankets. if you do you will have to keep her in view constantly, not an overnight option.

Question by F-MAN: Dangerous Sleep problem? Possible sleep disorder in general?
To start out i have an unusual sleep pattern have to go to bed late, between 11:30 and 12 PM on weeknights or i won’t fall a sleep at all. I don’t fall asleep till 2 or 3 am and i have to get up at 6:15. At least two nights a week i will not sleep at all. I get up and go to school have trouble staying awake all day long, which adversely effects my grades and social life somewhat too. Then i go home and take a two to three hour nap. What i think may be the dangerous sleep probelm that may have is 2-3 times a month i will have these experiences where i will be lying in bed and suddenly i will feel paralyzed for maybe like a minute long. Its like my whole body locks up, i am always able to pull out but its very scary. I have never had a seizure but if i had to compare this experience to anything a seizure would best compare. I also have trouble brething while i sleep and i run between three an five miles a week which make this supprising. I am 16 and 1/2 yrs old by the way.
