Question by marquez-martin@att.net: How many visits with an ENT is typical before they will possibly decide I need my tonsils removed.?
I am 23 years.old and have had reccurant ear infections and have been a snorer all of my life. When I was a child I had hearing problems because of the ear infections. I saw a specialist regularly and they always my parents that I would outgrow it. Obviously i have not and its become a huge problem in my life and it must run in my family because my dad also has sleep apnea. I know i need my tonsils removed and tubes in my ear. How long after you started seeing an ent did they actually remove yours?

I was directed to a surgeon by my family doctor and after the first visit we set up an appointment to get them removed. Although I ended up waiting 2 months they could have got me in within a week 2 at the most. Best of luck.

Question by lester: what can possibly be causing my breathlessness?
i have been experiencing episodes of breathlessness at rest and much more when moving about, i don’t walk very briskly as i have bi lateral knee problems so its not really down to over exertion.
I had a heart bypass 4 years ago and although i don’t get the pain i used to have i still get breathless. I also break out in the most horrendous sweats even just sitting in my chair reading a book, it’s so bad i have to sometimes take a shower and go and change my clothes as they are so wet with perspiration.
I have been back to my G.P. many many times about these problems and get the feeling i am regarded as either neurotic or hypochondriac. i have had lung function tests that prove to be ok but i do suffer with both obstructive and central sleep apnea.
Just lately i feel absolutely dead on my feet.
There’s a fair bit of stress in my life right now and i suppose this only adds to my health troubles, for eg. my 85 year old mum has just had a stroke and expects me at her beck and call 7 days a week and i am about to be evicted and have been told i will probably end up in B & B.
Its a bloody good job i’m not a gun owner. LOL
Occasional swelling of ankles, i’m also an ex smoker of about 6 years ago now, tested for diabetes negative and thyroid function ok.
Its a real mystery and causing more & more depression.
btw actual result of lung function test is unknown to me but i was told it was ok

I know that there are lots of people who have sleeping disorders in this world and I am starting to think that I am one of them.
For one, my dad is narcoleptic. I’m positive that I am not though because my problem is opposite.
It doesn’t matter how much sleep I have gotten the day before I cannot fall asleep until around 4 a.m. except every other week I fall asleep around 8:30 or 9, but then I WAKE UP at 4 a.m. I don’t understand what is wrong with me.
I’ve been doing this sort of thing since probably around 8th grade and now I’m a sophomore in college. It’s just recently like last semester and this semester that it’s gotten so bad that sometimes I’m like, “I might as well not even sleep tonight at all.”
So in short. I can’t sleep till 4 am (and could sleep through an earthquake) or I wake up at 4 am (but only once every other week) or I skip sleep altogether with no problem.
I am just really worried about my health and this is just getting out of hand..
Also how much is it to get a sleep test done?
