Question by llbb: Does anyone else with sleep apnea sleep past alarms?
I’m in the Army I have been diagnosed with severe OSA. I have been using a CPAP since January, anyway it doesn’t seem likes its working to well anymore, I wake up feeling like I got hit by a bus, my wife says I still snore. Today I woke up without my mask on and to the fact that I did not hear my alarm go off (I have 2 alarm clocks). Does anyone else have this problem?
please do not suggest anything all natural this a real condition, not something that pseudoscience can cure. I do wear a full fast mask because i am a mouth breather.

Question by Cindy F: My 3 1/2 year old son has suddenly in the past week had a huge behavior and other changes.?
He has severe sleep apnea and he has a few learning disorders they think relate to that. Otherwise he is the sweetest happiest child ever! In the past week his slur has gotten worse, he has been peeing beside the toilet instead of in it, and he has been having freakouts. Like the other day we got a ride home from a friend from the comissary and he panicked. Like screaming and kicking and scratching me. He’s never done that. Then the other day I was going to leave him with a friend to go to the doctor and he did the same to her so I took him. He stays home with me, and is never away so its not a problem of a sitter or etc. This is sudden like I said and I don’t understand what has happened. I’m thinking maybe its a medical cause but then again idk if its something mental either. His attacks are quite violent and then go away after some time and he’s back to normal again.
What is psychosis?
He isn’t my first child and I am fully aware of what fit pitching is when it comes to that. I have a full understanding of raising children and their actions as they grow. This is an unusual thing for my son, and not a normal fit. Has nothing to do with crying or screaming for certain things. Along with that you’d have to explain the slurring and sudden potty change as a fit as well? I wouldn’t. My son has had some serious health issues his whole life and as his mother I can say this new sudden change in him isn’t a part of his growing age.

Get him treatment for his apnea. Also get him a therapist who can help him understand what’s going on with him.
Apnea deprives the brain of oxygen and disrupts sleep. Lack of sleep can cause psychosis.

Question by Bubbles: C-section on Friday and I have developed sleep apnea in the past few days…I’m afraid I’ll quit breathing???
I am very, very pregnant and will be going in for a c-section on Friday. I have recently developed sleep apnea from what I can tell. I wake up gasping for air, feeling as if my heart has stopped, and typically right in the middle of a huge snore (thank God my husband doesn’t have to sleep next to me right now). After a little surfing on the net, I’ve decided it is sleep apnea. I’m really huge with this baby, I have acid reflux now, some nasal problems, and I snore.
What I’m worried about is after the c-section they will put me under to sew me up. I’m afraid I will quit breathing and no one will notice. I suppose that is pretty silly since the anethisiologist will need to be right there during the surgery, but I’m still apprehensive.
Should I call the hospital surgery admissions and ask about this? Or just talk to the anethisiologist before surgery? Maybe I should call my OB..though I have an appointment on Thursday.
This will be my third c-section so I know what they will do. I’m not scared of the surgery. I’m apprehensive about the breathing issue.

I wonder why you think they will put you to sleep to sew you up when they didn’t put you to sleep to cut you wide open??? If they do put you to sleep they will have a tube down your throat and will breathe for you….so don’t worry, they know how to handle it. Work hard after the birth, as apnea is associated w/overweight….the throat has extra fat and blocks the airways, same w/snoring. Overweight.

When I sent in my application for my health insurance, I forgot to note that I have obstructive sleep apnea. Stupid mistake, but I hadn’t had insurance since I was 20 years old and paid of my OSA treatments out of pocket nearly two years ago. I had an expensive hospital bill in September for a completely unrelated illness. When my insurer pulled my medical history, they saw the OSA and sent a letter with reimbursement for premiums and said that my coverage was null and void. I feel that they should cover the bill since the illness was unrelated.

I started out w/ 3 mg like the bottle recommended, but it didn’t really do anything so I doubled the dose. It still didn’t have an effect so finally I just went all out. Is that normal? I’ve had problems falling asleep my whole life, is it possible I’m like insensitive to melatonin?
