Question by BibleThumper52: Is ist possible for death to occur due to over admistered oxygen therapy; at night for instance?
My husband has COPD and is being treated for Sleep Apnea via oxygen therapy and a face mask for sleeping. Is it possible for him to receive too much oxygen while sleeping and ultimately causing death?

Since he isn’t getting enough oxygen due to the COPD he needs as much as he can get. He is in no danger of death from too much oxygen.

Question by Sherry: How can an untreated aneurysm last for over eleven years without bursting ?
A close friend of mine claims an aneurysm was discovered on an X-ray in 1999 after a car wreck. He has not had surgery or treatment for it. If this is true, how is it that it hasn’t disected.
He also has had for many years:
Congestive heart failure
Severe asthma
Cellulitis of the legs
Sleep apnea
Obesity (well over 300 pounds)
Given all these conditions at once, how has he survived for so long. Since 2002 he had kept telling me his time was “short” until two years ago. He is now 65 years old. He has stopped telling me that because he knows I won’t believe him. Am I wrong in being suspicious about his sicknesses.

sounds like he has obesity-related problems, but is also a bit of a hypochondriac

Question by Cory Ransbottom: I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was 15 and over weight, can I still Join the Army?
When I was 15 I was quite overweight and my doctor told me that I had sleep apnea after doing a sleep lab study. He recommended me to get surgery which I never got, because I figured it was because of my weight and didn’t want them to carve me up unnecessarily, which, they like to do to get money ha ha. I am now 25 and am in very good shape, work out every day, run and eat reasonably healthy and I don’t think that I have sleep apnea any more. I feel just fine during the day and I truly don’t feel tired all the time like I used to. I have gone and talked to the recruiter a couple of times, but need to get my GED and 15 semester hours of college courses to enlist which I am working on constantly. I should note that I haven’t told him about my former history of sleep apnea yet, I know that sleep apnea is a DQ from the Army. I am very dedicated to joining and it would kill me to be told I can’t join because of something some doctor told me 10 years ago that doesn’t affect me any more. Would I just be better off not telling him, because I have read that they can’t get your medical records unless you give them permission. Please, only people that know what they are talking about answer this question (Army Recruiters, people currently or formerly serving).

What they don’t know, wont hurt them. Find another doctor and get a psychical and do not tell him or her about it. Take the record of the psychical to your recruiter and have fun in boot camp!

Question by Sam: I am so depressed!!! I was diagnosed with sleep Apnea over 9 months ago.?
My ENT (Ear, nose throat ) doctor is a weirdo, he tells me to wear a mouthguard to help my breathing at night. first of all I dont belive him that I have sleep apnea, I think He is just B.S ing the whole thing. Second of all every time I go to his office he asks so how are you ?? I tell him OK we dont communicate that much. I went to a sleep study test from his clinic three or four times, based on my sleeping in his clininc I stop breathing a certain amount of time every nite I dont get the whole thing its all bizarre to me. I dont know what to do + I am on my Dads insurance so I dont have basically other options for a doctor, anyone have any suggestion about the truth of sleep apnea or is it a load of bullcr&p fabricated by some dumba8s trying to make tons of money off helpless studpid patients who think they have a sleep disorder when really its something else, Thanks alot!!

I have never heard of an E N T handling a sleep disorder. That is out of his field. I have sleep
apnea and have about four years. You should be on a CPAP machine while you are sleeping.
That keeps you from stopping breathing. If you are not using the machince you sure do not
want to wear a mouth guard. Thatwould help strangle you. Sleep Apnea can be bad because
only certain parts of your body will get the oxygen you need. It can lead to heart failure.
I am not trying to scare you but it needs the proper attentlion. Try to pull up sleep apnea on
the computer. It shold tell you about it and tell your dad you need to see a doctor that treats
sleep disorders. I wish I could remember the web site for sleep apnea.

Question by Joplin Drew: Headaches for over six months?
They’re reallly bad and progress worse throughout the day. My doctor removed my adenoids and tonsils and diagnosed me with Sleep Apnea, but nothing has gotten better. They are really bad. I had them when I was a baby for a few years too. Now there back. Could I possible have a hidden tumor or something? What could it really be causing it? Nothing seems to cure them.
