Question by unwonted: For those who can’t tolerate the CPAP machine has anyone had success with any other…?
…anti-snoring devices?
Hi, I have a CPAP machine for a mile case of sleep apnea but it isn’t very comfortable. I’m wondering if anyone would recommend any of the other devices available such as a mouthpiece, chin strap, special pillow, or any other device or method you may have tried? Thanks

It is always important to follow the instructions of your physician – some types and degrees of sleep apnea can be helped with other devices than the CPAP machine but if you were prescribed the machine, it is probably because nothing will quite do the trick.

I have tried all of the items you suggested and eventually they did not work sufficiently to help me to continue to breathe at night.

I know that the CPAP isnt the most comfortable piece of equipment, but you do get used to it (we are very adaptable, we humans) and for me, it has given me the best sleep ever in my life.

I would clearly see if your physician thinks you can make the substitutions.

I’ve been from doctor to doctor and we’re still working on what on Earth is wrong with me – I’m having increased fatigue, by now it can be called exhaustion. I can’t concentrate, at times I can barely lift my arms or walk, and sometimes I find myself slurring my words I’m so tired. I had a sleep study done and they found that I have more REM sleep than normal and the onset is much quicker. Rather than having increasing time periods of REM sleep, mine are uniform and last a long time. My sleep specialist has ruled out narcolepsy because the onset is not severe enough, but says that the information indicates only that I am very tired, though of course this is something to continue looking into. I literally need 15 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period to function properly, while only a couple years ago I needed about 7. When I search around online for sleep disorders having to do with REM, the only thing that I find is REM Behavioral Disorder, having to do with a lack of REM, and as a result acting out the dream. I do not have that.
What other disorders are there that either result in exhaustion and an increase in REM sleep or just the latter?

I wake up every day at 5:45am for school and usually go to sleep around 10:30pm. I can barely stay awake during the day even if I usually get a full night’s sleep. I am always tired and exhausted and it’s slowly getting worse. Can someone give me some advice why this is happening to me?
