My son has obstructive sleep apnea and needs open-heart surgery to help get rid of the pressure in his lungs, I have heard that having a breathing tube in for the amount of time that the surgery is will cause complications when trying to remove it after…. is this information valid??

Has any one had the surgery for obstructive sleep apnea. Were thay cut your soft pallet, your uvula, and tonsils. If you have had it or know some one that has. Did it help. And what was the recovery. Did it change your voice. And any think els I should know before I go get cut up.

I posted this under the wrong category before. I have a deviated septum, one of my nostrils is almost completly closed. I also have obstructive sleep apnea (too much tissue in my throat). I’m trying to start running but when I reach about a mile I have shortness of breath. Could this be the cause?

I have a deviated septum, one of my nostrils is almost completly closed. I also have obstructive sleep apnea (too much tissue in my throat). I’m trying to start running but when I reach about a mile I have shortness of breath. Could this be the cause?

I was just wondering if your child was constantly exhausted??
My eldest 2yo boy, has had OSA since he was born, but it has recently gotten really bad. He is constantly grumpy and tired. He is in bed at 7pm and wakes as much as every 20 minutes. He is having his tonsils and adenoids out next month.
How did you cope???
I am physically and mentally drain most days, as I over worry about him stopping breathing. I know the doctor have all told me this is normal, but he is my baby (and a real mummies boy) and I hate seeing it.
How was your child after the adenotonsillectomy??
Did he/she recover well???
Any advice would be great!!! My man & I would appreciate it!!

I suffer obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. This disease means you are likely to stop breathing unconsciously which you may die before you notice you are suffocated…
The doctor told me it’s a slight one and it doesn’t matter if I make proper homecare.

How Common Is Obstructive Sleep Apnea Is Children?

This is not my expertise, but I should think it was more prevelant among overweight children.
Having said that, there are possible other reasons why sleep apnea occurs; not least tonsil problems.
[edit] as the guy below wrote, it’s more common than might be thought. But because children (on the whole) tend to have less ‘looseness’ generally in tissue of their throat and mouth and a clear air passage through the nose, the problem is less recognised as apnea.
