Who are you trying to convince of your problems? Your doctors or people that don’t care or want to hear about your problems? You can help your condition immensely by shedding some pounds that directly effect conditions like GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), CHF (congestive heart failure), sleep apnea (obesity effects this as well with breathing problems) and your high blood pressure. I don’t believe it would help the coronary artery disease, brain tumor or some other problems you don’t mention but I’m surprised you didn’t list diabetes as well. Exercise in moderation to start and watch what you eat for just one month and I’m sure you’ll see a difference. Don’t worry about what other people don’t believe and work on yourself. Put YOU first and everyone else second. I think you’ll be surprised at the end of a month if you’ll just try it. Good luck to you.

Question by ginadeluca247: My husband is 36 and has SEVERE Sleep Apnea. He stops breathing approx. 100x per hour or more…?
He is a bit overweight but not tremendously (5′9–215lbs)–we have four small children and I am soo afraid that he is going to drop dead of a heart attack. His previous test revealed that out of just under 6 hours of sleep, he stopped breathing for just under 4 of those hours. He is using a CPAP Machine and has been for about 4-5 years–but lately it does not seem to be helping…please help. I can’t bear to see him so exhausted….

Best advice is to notify your doctor of this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Sleep Apnea is a very dangerous killer especially for obese persons. The best thing your husband can do, (and I’m saying this out of pure kindness and concern) Is to loose at least 30 pounds. This doesn’t mean gain muscle and lose fat this means lose all fat. Have him go on walks, cut out red meats, fat, soda, beer, and smoking of anykind if he does. Its quite amazing what losing a little bit of weight will do for the human body. Another thing is have a brain scan done on him to make sure that the lack of oxygen to his brain has not caused any damage. Damage to the brain could cause many health problems including (but not limited to) Strokes and Seizures. Best of luck to you and your husband

Question by Trazzy: can anyone tell me more about sleep apnea?
I think I might have it. How is it diagosed? What are the treatments? Thanks!

Answer by mlgable
Sleep apnea is diagnosed by doing a sleep study. Hubby got to do his at home with a portable machine that recorded his breathing. Often times then send you to a sleep lab to have your test done. The sleep study shows how often you stop breathing per minute if you have sleep apnea. Standard treatment is the use of a Cpap machine. You can either use a mask or nasal pillows which is what my hubby prefers. Left untreated it can cause problems. If you think you may have it see your doc and get checked out as it is a serious thing and should not go untreated.

Question by sarahmreed: Why does my husband get mad at me when I am sick? How do I make him understand and be more caring?
I wake up 2-3 times a week with a headache due to sinus problems, sleep apnea and stress. I am married and we have two children. My husband and I both work from home; we get along wonderfully and work well together. There are no major problems in our relationship except for me dealing with morning headaches 2-3 times a week. If left to rest and in quiet, the headaches subside in about 30-45 mins.

Now, here’s the problem:

My husband writes for one to one-and-a-half hours daily outside the home, and he’s always anxious to leave the house to go write in the mornings, but some mornings, I wake up with these headaches. I ask him to give me time to feel better and he accuses me of not helping with the kids in the morning. He also gets moody and mad and has an attitude with me and seems to be louder than usual rather than being kinder to me.

I have explained this to him in as many ways as I can and he still does not seem to care that I am in pain and refuses to change how he treats me when I am having these headaches.

What can I do? I am at my wits end.
These are the things I have tried:

* I’ve explained to him that as a stay-at-home mom for nearly 5 years (with him working outside the home for those years) I have dealt with my problems with no help and did so because I had no choice. I said that now he is working from home, too, I should no longer have to suffer through the pain when he is here to help me.

* I have also explained that I deal with the kids by myself while he pursues his writing. Me getting 30-45 mins. in the morning to feel better should go without saying. (He cops a huge attitude with this one.)

* Yelling, which of course does no good; it makes me feel worse.
I have gone to a doctor, and because these are stress related headaches, getting the moments of quiet in the morning is what I need most.

Also, I need surgery to cure the slight apnea I have, but our insurance does not cover it. Again, proper rest is what I need.
Response to T: Why doesn’t he see it from my point of view as well? He deals with chronic pain as well, and when he complains of his pain, I get him his pills, a glass of water, and play quietly with the children. I am asking for 30 extra minutes a day, 3 days a week. While he gets 1.5 hours a day, 7 days a week. And it’s not even “me time,” which I rarely get any of.

See a doctor. Waking up with headaches two or three times a week is not normal.
