Question by inteleyes: Do you believe or have you experienced a O B E from a medical condition as sleep apnea?
I will be tested on this condition because I believe that I have this problem with sleep apnea. This may explain one reason why I have out of body experiences……If your not breathing good while asleep, this in return will cause your heart rate to slow down. When your heart rate slows to a certain point, your soul is then released and floats out of body. Your fast heart rate is what holds your spirit-soul in the body.

This sleep apnea can be a serious condition, and I do remember jumping out of bed from a deep sleep because I was in need to catch my breath and breathe.

I do believe in one of my out of body experiences I did die for seconds, or they on the other side thought I was dead…..This is what happen that night….I was sleeping alone in the home at the time, I all of a sudden was aware, I first heard many voices as if I were somewhere else. Perhaps like I said died, and the voices were those on the other side that came to guide me to the other side. I then floated halfway out of my body feet first as if someone grabbed my legs and pulled me out, perhaps they were thinking, “Why is he still in his body if he’s dead”. Then I remember turning around and I crawled back in my body, but I am now in my body the wrong way, then I felt my spirit spin around to righten itself. I actuall felt my spirit swipe the inside of my body when I spun. Then I woke up. All of my out of body experiences is when I am sleeping.

So does this make sense to you, and for those who do have out of body experiences, do you know if you have a sleeping condition to where your breathing isn’t very good? This makes a lot of sense to me, OBE, as I see this from another aspect.
There is more ways to have an out of body experience, and I am sure this is one way or cause for it to happen. You don’t need air when your out of body…..I had done it enough to know what an out of body is, just wondering if this medical problem is a cause for it to start.

no I think your problem is lack of oxygen. This is too far fetched even for you my friend.

I have had 3 OBE in my life. All were while completely awake and 2 with friends there. They said I just looked completely “blank” in the face. Hasn’t happened for years though.

Question by Dr McCoy: Aviation Medical Exam – Special Issuance?
I’m going to an AME for the first time. If you had a condition that required a “special issuance”, had all the appropriate documentation to present at the time of the examination, what time frame are we talking about to actually get the student pilot and 3rd class medical? The condition is sleep apnea, well controlled, documented electronic compliance with therapy at 100% for 3 years, letter from physician treating it, stating that all pre-treatment conditions (sleepiness, headaches) are resolved, and all paperwork in hand from polysomatographic studies. Is this something that the AME can do? Will they have to defer to the regional flight surgeon? or to Oklahoma City?

With the documents in hand, Most likely, it can be issued straight away with a phone call from the AME to Oklahoma City. (Conditional upon review by them)
Email me, I can put you in touch with a Senior AME that “specializes” in special issuances and out of the ordinary circumstances, to give you the real gouge.

Question by Miss J: Are there other medical conditions that create similar symptoms to those of depression and anxiety?
I am doing a little research. I have found a considerable amount of overlap in symptoms that are typically diagnosed as depression, anxiety and bi-polar disorder. I have looked into Epstein-Bar Virus, PTSD, Anemia, ADHD, Thyroid, and Sleep Apnea. It is amazing how much the symptoms overlap. I’d like to know if there are other conditions that cause or mimic symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. I would be interested in doing further research.

of course, psych illnesses should be the last to be considered after all other med tests done.
chronic diseases, cancers, diabetes, obesity, but the docs can misdiagnose for years. I know, took them 4 years, 3 picc lines for pseudomonas and a DNA test to prove I have Cystic Fibrosis.
I fired the last idiot who pulled the “depression” needs cymbalta crap, got an MRI brain, shows meningioma. before the new medication, had stuttering, wt loss, forgetfulness, fatigue, muscle weakness, pains in joints/muscles, nausea, low K+, that is not depression, esp the onset and presentation and I knew it wasn’t CF. depression can be misdiagnosed by apathetic docs, pt has vague sx, abd pain, or other sx, labs don’t really show anything, but a disease in process, MS, lupus, ovarian cancers, neurological sx, plus all the wrong meds are Rx’d and the pt suffers until their illness is so bad it ’s too late. supposedly 2% of the pop has depression, but the way they’d have you think, everyone is depressed clinically. see www.effexor.com phases of depression,

Question by insomina: Sleep Test and Medical Coverage?
A few months ago a doctor gave me a referral for a sleep test. However, at the time I was on temporary coverage since I was removed from my father’s work plan from having graduated from college. After getting the sleep test cost estimate of over $ 3,000 my temporary wouldn’t cover, the referral has been sitting there.

Now, I finally will be getting full coverage soon with Cigna that comes with my new job. My question is, will Cigna cover the in lab polysomnography for diagnoses of sleep apnea, even though the referral was given prior to the start of their coverage?

I have found a recent policy that Cigna does cover such procedures, but I need to know if having pre-admittance referral will effect getting covered. Let me know thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by knicname
Depends on the state in which you live. Some require coverage for pre-existing conditions.
You need to call Cigna & just ask a general question using the policy you have as an “example” & ask about pre-existing conditions.
If not, speak to your MD & ask if he considers this a pre-existing condition…if not let him write you a new prescription for the sleep lab.

Good luck
