Question by James S: Anyone here have Sleep Apnea? I was diagnosed with it this morning.I will sleep with a C.P.A.P machine tonight
I quit breathing over 200 times in a 8 hour night ( they had all kind of sensers hooked on me). i don’t remember waking up, but it was easy to see on the readout this morning.( and video/ audio tape) Anyway, i have to go back and sleep there tonight with a C.P.A.P. machine ( i will have to sleep with it every night)
That explaines the cronic fatigue, and memory loss, over the past few years, also depression and irratabilaty. I’m really excited, finally some answers as to why i feel like %$ ^# all the time.
I lost a couple of good jobs, and a 16 year marraige because of this. well i’m glad the marriage is over, but i’m sure going to miss those jobs

Question by mande: SLEEP APNEA – Anyone here use the Dental Appliance?
I’m wondering if anyone here has used one of these, and if it worked for you?
Or if you’re a dentist, and you know how these work?

(I’m not interested in any answers about anything other than the dental appliance. I know all about CPAP machines.)

OK, well if you know about the surgeries, I’d be interested in that.

Question by Summerly, loving life: Here is the latest treatment for snoring hope it helps out tell me what you think of it?
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/22/health/22snor.html

. It is a little bit price-y but hey if you know of someone who can’t sleep and you they have that sleep apnea and are at risk for even death then the price should be covered by insurance I think. Tell me if you find it helpful

My dad uses one. He says that it takes about a week to adjust to it, but it has helped him tons! He used to take naps on the couch all the time, but now he never does.

Question by Pat L: with having 3 types of sleep apnea & no ins cant get to sleep with mask or nose where do we gg from here?

Answer by frog
Having gone through this – it’s a matter of ‘retraining’ the brain to understand that Bed is for sleeping !

If you can’t get to sleep within about 15 mins., get up, go to another room, have a cuppa, read a book (don’t watch TV) until the eyes start feeling tired.
Go back to bed, take a few deep breaths and relax.

Repeat as required, which may take several nights.
The important thing is not to lie in bed Trying to get to sleep, get up and start again.

8 out of 10 people suffer from lack of sleep – 3 out of 4 post- operative patients suffer from this!

It’s important not to stimulate the brain before bedtime – stop watching TV an hour before going to bed – don’t have alcohol/coffee/cola or anything with caffeine in it – try to empty your mind of the days activities.
