Question by lotusflower: my 3yr old has sleep apnea. does anyone have experience with this?
I noticed when he was an infant that he stopped breathing regularly, and now they finally did a sleep test on him last night in the hospital. He had many episodes of apnea during the night.
hello.
this is a long story, but when my son was an infant he stopped breathing in my arms, and although I spoke to several Doctors nothing came of my inquiries as to what to do. My son repeatedly stops breathing every night and startles himself awake, or I, hard to describe it, I KNOW when he is having an episode, and if he is not sleeping with me, I am able to be with him and help him breathe again. 2 weeks ago after seeing a doctor I had not seen in about 2yrs (rotating doc at the clinic who set up the ENT/Pediatrician origianally after I expressed my concerns) was being thorough (thank God) and asked about the test results. I told him none were done. he immediately sent me back to the ENT who after ensuring my son was not suffering from a cold etc had my son admitted to the hospital for a sleep monitoring. Last night he had several apneas during the middle of the night (duh, I knew I was not being a hyper sensitive mother like I was made to feel when no followup was done

It is treatable most of the time. I suggest you take him to Atlanta or Seattle. Both have excellent children’s hospitals with programs specializing in Sleep Apnea.

Question by mandymay0709: Is this an out of body experience? Astral projection? Sleep apnea? Waking nightmares?
This has been happening to me since I was a child. Things have a slightly different “view” as I have gotten older. I wake up in my sleep. It’s REAL it is not just a bad dream or even just a dream. It happens in every state every house or tent every vacation. Always and anywhere. At first when I “wake up” I can’t move and I know immediately that it’s starting. So I can’t move and I am always really scared. I don’t see or hear things that aren’t there only everything the way it was when I was actually awake. The scenery doesn’t change. With the exception that I have thought that I saw my dog walking around once and when I forced myself awake he was not really there. And one other time I saw 2 large planks of wood levitating in my bedroom doorway. Very scared when I awoke. Recently it has been getting worse and more evil and scary feeling. I was slammed backwards into my bedroom wall about a month ago and was trying so hard to scream for my cat because he was right next to me and as I was coming to I heard myself screaming his name and it was not my voice…It was deep and scratchy. He heard me and was looking at me wide eyed and alert. I also had not moved. Within the same month I was sleeping on the couch and again it happened but this time I was completely paralyzed and couldn’t even try to open my eyes and I could feel something walking up the couch on my legs. This is becoming terrifying and intrusive to my contentment with sleeping. I am always worried that it will happen. I have to force myself to stay awake for at least 10 minutes before I can go back to sleep by smoking a cigarette watching TV and /or walking around. My first instinct is fear I have looked up numerous theories and subjects that could be an answer but there is always something that differs from my experience. I am 26 and have had this since I can remember. I just want some sort of answer or maybe idea that I can research. Please Help! Thank you

I to have sleep apnea ( during my test i stopped breathing 127 times in the first hour). I also had a hard time getting used to my mask but once I did the difference was earth moving. To get use to the mask I would put it on in the evening while watching TV. It took a few weeks but I cant sleep without it now.

Question by aspicco: What is your personal experience with sleep apnea?
At my doc’s request, I did a sleep study last week.
Doc called me today, said I have “severe sleep apnea.”
I said, can’t I just lose weight? (I could lose 60 pounds before I get near “normal” sized.) He said it is “not enough” right now.
Got an appt to see him next week.
Anyone had any personal experience with this? Any advice comments or suggestions?
