Question by Dior: my friend has to go to a sleep clinic to test for sleep apnea – what should he expect?

There’s really not much they can do and usually the final outcome is that they will tell him/her they need to sleep with oxygen and mask through the night.
A cheaper way of over coming this problem if all would like to know and that is sew in a pocket on the ( back ) of your friends PJ top, then when he goes to go to bed, place a tennis ball or a ball abit smaller and hard into the pocket. This stops the person from lying on their back and stops them from snoring, plus allowing them to have a good night sleep because they stay on their side.

Question by B: I am having sleep apnea treatment soon. What can I expect to feel like after CPAP or surgery?

Answer by belgianlady
After CPAP treatment, the apnea-hypopnea index is lower, and mean lowest SaO2 higher than before treatment. After CPAP, patients are more bradycardic, blood pressure and its standard deviation decreased as SaO2 improved in non-REM stage 2 sleep, and BRS increased (nocturnal wakefulness: +59%; non-REM stage 2 sleep: +68% over pretreatment values). Baroreflex dysfunction in OSAS may be at least partly accounted for by nocturnal intermittent hypoxemia, and can be reversed by long-term CPAP treatment.
