Question by llbb: Does anyone else with sleep apnea sleep past alarms?
I’m in the Army I have been diagnosed with severe OSA. I have been using a CPAP since January, anyway it doesn’t seem likes its working to well anymore, I wake up feeling like I got hit by a bus, my wife says I still snore. Today I woke up without my mask on and to the fact that I did not hear my alarm go off (I have 2 alarm clocks). Does anyone else have this problem?
please do not suggest anything all natural this a real condition, not something that pseudoscience can cure. I do wear a full fast mask because i am a mouth breather.

Question by : Do I have sleep Apnea or something else? Who do I ask?
I am a 30 year old woman – who is 40lbs overweight (according to dr charts) and has moderate asthma – Often when sleeping I wake-up sweating, can feel my heart through my back, get headaches, have to use my inhaler (though it doesn’t always seem to work at night), get restless legs – and feel sluggish sometimes and have headaches for a couple of days that seem untreatable then they disappear, only to reappear later that month. The Dr. ran all kinds of tests, thyroid and such, but to no avail – she never mentioned sleep apnea, but I saw a tv special about it and both my parents have sleep apnea… The thing is that my dr never recommended that I get the sleep study, so do I go and ask for one (maybe she’ll think I’m crazy), or do I just go and get it done – I have a PPO so referrals are not necessary. TIA

Go to a specialist, who will do a sleep study on you. They have you stay at the office all night, and monitor your breathing and watch you for signs of apnea. Call your doctor or local hospital for a referal to someone in your area or check your phone book. You may need a CPAP machine if you are having apnea.

Question by Forever: Does anyone else have sleep apnea?
Last night I stopped breathing and woke up gasping for air. I couldnt’t fall back to sleep. This hasnt happened in awhile, the last time was probably last year. I got tested for this a few years back and the lab said that i have this condition. I’m wondering if i should tell my family that i love each of them in case something happens to me, yet I don’t want to tell them because I don’t want to make them worried.

If it has been confirmed through the lab that you do indeed have sleep apnea than you can get a prescription for a C-pap machine to wear at night. It forces air into your airways to keep them open. This way you are not oxygen deprived and you don’t have to worry about sleep apnea related death.

Question by brodiemojo: I have sleep apnea. 30 incidents an hour with a duration of 10 secs each. I hate CPAP-what else to do?
I tried the hybrid mask, the regular over the nose mask and the Snap unit which goes up the nose. I have the Snap at home and used it last night first time. Managed 3 hours. Mouth was so dry.
Any other choices out there? I am very claustophobic. I worry none of this will help. Any other stories out there?

Unfortunately there aren’t many options, unless your sleep apnea is caused by obesity- then you could try losing weight. Otherwise perhaps your PCP could prescribe a relaxant or sleep aid to help you through. As for dryness there are cpap models with humidification and vaseline is a strong long lasting lip moisturizer.

Question by ♥Riyen’s Mom & Ayah due 4.12: Speech delay in 2 year old, what else can we do?
My son has one word he uses and is considered severely delayed. We have him in child development classes and speech therapy but nothing is seeming to work. He went to the ENT to make sure his ears were fine and they say they are, but scheduled him for a sleep study to rule out sleep apnea as a cause. Is there anything I can do to help him? I feel like I’ve tried everything but nothing seems to work. He knows at least 10 signs, so we can actually communicate, but is there an actual REASON why children have speech delays? Like could it be from something we’re missing as in throat or nose (ENT only checked ears?) that is causing his delay or is it just something that happens?

Try reading to him and talking to him a lot when he wants things that are not urgent try and make him talk by guessing, my cousin didn’t talk till a late age and my auntie always gave him what he wanted and therefore he felt no need to start talking Seeing as he can say one word Don’t think he has anything wrong with him just keep encouraging him and rewarding good luck
