Question by miraclethree: Can a sleep clinic diagnosis heart problems? (please note, sleep apnea is NOT the problem)?
My three year old niece was sent to a sleep clinic because sleep apnea was suspected. After the test the nurse told her mother she saw no signs of it. A few days later she received a call that she must come in April 9 to discuss some serious results. My niece has a heart murmur so we’re wondering if the test could have detected problems with her heat.

Question by Finally conceived a lil Pumpkin: We just got this diagnosis for my son. Please help me understand?
My son is 10 months old. We found out through a sleep study that he has Central Apnea (the brain doesn’t signal the lungs to breathe when he is sleeping.) They called yesterday with the results and had an apnea monitor sent to our house within two hours as well as somebody to refresh our infant CPR. It was a bit alarming!
Tomorrow he will be going in to get blood work to test for metabolic disorders as well as an echo on his heart.
What may be some of the things they would be looking for? What kind of metabolic disorders could he have?
Son’s history: severe GERD since birth, recently failed left hearing test, swallowing disorder–can only eat thickened Elecare formula, milk-protein allergy, hernia in testicle, testicle torsion at birth which required surgery. He currently weighs 19 pounds. He has not gained weight in four months.

Ok wedll don’t know much here, but I know that my neighbor’s daughter had the Central Apnea, and they did minor surgery. All they did was put a little straw like tube in both of her nostrils, and that somehow solved the problem. But the surgery can not be performed until their one.

I have my 2nd sleep study tonight and I know they will hook me up to the machine for breathing but I am wondering how it went for other people. I am nervous about how the heck I will be able to sleep with this ‘top gun’ mask on.

The apnea diagnosis is so slight that I do not require treatment with a C-PAP machine. I’m surprised that I’ve been declined. Does anyone have any suggestions?
