Question by mande: SLEEP APNEA – Anyone here use the Dental Appliance?
I’m wondering if anyone here has used one of these, and if it worked for you?
Or if you’re a dentist, and you know how these work?
(I’m not interested in any answers about anything other than the dental appliance. I know all about CPAP machines.)
OK, well if you know about the surgeries, I’d be interested in that.

Question by CJP: Sleep Apnea treatment: Dental device that allows you to breath through your mouth at night?
I’ve been officially diagnosed with sleep apnea in the mild to moderate range. I also suffer from depression (probably sleep deprivation induced) and insomnia (late to bed/early to rise). I sleep for between 3 to 5 hours a night. Obviously this isn’t enough sleep.
I’ve tried CPAP, but can’t get used to it, mainly due to my problems with insomnia (my mind has trouble being “quiet”). I have a hard time sleeping without the distraction of a CPAP, and WITH it…. it’s impossible for me to sleep. I litterally just DON’T SLEEP with it on. I’ve been trying for 2 months (seriously).
I know there are dental devices that relocate your jaw and tounge, but I seem to have problems mainly with my “soft palette”. I notice that if I breath through my mouth, it’s impossible for it to close off. SO, I was wondering if anyone uses or knows of a dental device that would have holes in it to allow you to breath through your mouth at night? Something like a mouth guard with a tube coming out… THANKS!

Ask your doctor. Seriously. I’m not trying to be a smart-as*s. Who knows what people in this website will suggest to you. Doctor knows best.

Question by B: I am gonna need a dental surgery and they can’t put me to sleep because I have sleep apnea.?
Do you think my surgery will hurt too much if I am awake?
By the looks of the answers I’ve gotten so far it may not be as bad as what I had imagined. The dental surgeon is gonna give me a consultation before I go in so I am still not fully certain if he’ll end up pulling two or three teeth. What I was told to expect is a root canal and that he will have to cut down into the back portion of my gums to get a very odd yet incomplete tooth that was broken some time ago from out of the upper back area of my mouth. All I can say to what I just typed spelling out my own dental situation is WOW.. as I have also half way pre-imagined some pain or stress to the situation before going in.
Thanks for the answers everyone.
