Question by jayjay: What damage does sleep apnea play on the heart?
So my husband now has a bad case of sleep apnea and is told he has to have surgery soon. That his sleep apnea is damaging his heart and making it work harder and if he doesn’t have the surgery..he is a high risk for heart attacks and strokes.

Okay..so here is the question…

After he has the surgery, does the heart remain damaged or can the heart heal and reverse damages?
Or is it likely he will just keep having more problems even though he had the surgery?

I am looking for answers from people who have actually experienced this or gone thru this..so don’t say..Ask your doctor…This isn’t a professional answer I am looking for..what happened with your own experience?

Thank you for your answer in advance.

There will still be a risk even after sugery. It’s a chance he will have to take. The doctors cannot guarantee anything although obviously they are doing their best.

I feel like my mind is weak because I had sleep apnea all through school. I am in my mind 20’s and have sleep apnea due to the structure of my body (I am not overweight which is the usual cause). I did ok in school but I just feel like I didn’t absorb everything I needed to. What would you do? I know use C-PAP and have been for a few month and am feeling a lot better.
