Sleep Apnea Treatment

Question by andy: Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis- Symptom of another condition?
Last year May I was diag. with bacterial vaginosis and treated with a dose of 3 pills at one time. (I also had an abnormal pap & colposcopy which came out negative.) I did not feel right and went back recently. I was diag. with vaginosis again and was given Flagyl for 7 days. I saw my regular MD for the past month for other symptoms,after a urine test said I had a UTI and gave me a dose of Cipro (3 pills/3 days.) I have finished this dosing and still 2 weeks later know that I am not right. I am going to go back t the Gyn again for a 4th treatment. Before the summer I have never had anything like this not even a yeast infection.

I have been going to my MD for other symptoms such has palpitations, high blood pressure (145/100), dizzy spells, nausea spells, fatigue, headaches, ear infections, flushing, periods of low body temp (94 deg) and low pulse, night sweats, sleep apnea and brown spots on my back. Now Im just nervous that the bacterial vaginosis could be a sign something else??

you could be getting it from your man if he hasnt been treated either, i was told by my md that i had it about 15years ago and my husband got treated too

Bacterial vaginosis can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease(PID). If not treated early, causes infertility Visit a gynaecologist immediately.

bacterial vaginosis shows no evidence of vaginal inflammation. it occurs when pH of vagina increases or becomes alkaline. it could lead to a cases of premature births and low birth weight infants.

Question by Jen: Sleep Apnea, Chronic High Blood pressure and chest pain…?
My husband has chrinic high blood pressure, even with meds it is usually140/90 he started using his CPAP last night and after using it for several hours started feeling a pain or soreness in his chest. he also said he was feeling weird so he took his blood pressure and for the first time in years it was 110/70, without any meds that day his pulse has also gone down from 95-115 bpm to 75 bpm, he says he breaths different when he takes the CPAP mask off, like they are longer deeper breaths and he isnt sure if that is supposed to happen…. would using a CPAP for only a few hours cause this? i mean its nice with him having a “normal” blood pressure and heart rate but i’m also concerned becuase it happened over night…. should we be worried? (he also has restless leg syndrome and even with the CPAP he can only use it for a few hours and still cant get into that Deep Sleep. he is always tired and gets up every hour or so becuase he cant sleep or cant stay asleep! Please give me your input.

the CPAP machine should reduce the number of times he gets up in the night.

It is normal that when using a CPAP machine, that the pulse and blood pressure drops – without the CPAP his lungs and heart were working extra hard trying to get oxygen into the lungs and and blood.

But the chest pain? that doesn’t sound right. ( i have a Cpap) I think he should call the doc.

It could be that just by accident he started having angina the night he started the cpap – his doc should check him out.

Question by pennypincher: Do sleep apnea treatments help someone if their sleep apnea is caused by chronic phlegm?
My husband says I snore sometimes and don’t sleep sound. Due to allergies, I have phlegm quite frequently and I think that is my problem. Will the c-pap machine do any good if that is the problem?

I think it COULD help in theory, i mean it’s a forced air system right? You’d probably be best off treating the source of the apnea, because in your specific case sleep apnea (and snoring) seem to just be a symptom of your allergies and congestion. Talk to your doctor about a nighttime decongestant for long term use.

You probably don’t want to use the over the counter nighttime decongestants for a very extended period of time because they’re made with ephedrine or pseudophedrine, which isn’t good to take every day for a long time.
