Question by edkolover: To parents with babies who have taken aminophylline…?
My premature son has been taking aminophylline for apnea and bradycardia for several weeks now, and it’s almost time for him to stop. I am a little nervouse about it, but my main question is, if your baby has taken it, did you notice a difference in their sleep patterns, as the medication is a central nervous system stimulant.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Question by ~Cooper’s Mommy~ pregnant with 2nd!: Sleep apnea in babies?
I’ve noticed recently that my 4 month old son is breathing irregularly. He snores nearly all night, and he seemed to gasp for air every once in a while. I asked the doctor about it, and he said it is normal so long as he doesn’t stop breathing. Well, a little while ago I was holding him while he was asleep and he was snoring, and he’d start to seem like he was having a hard time getting air, then he’d stop breathing for a few seconds. Then he’d gasp deeply like what I had noticed before. I’m going to call the pediatrician in the morning, but I was wondering if any of you have experienced this with your child? From what I’ve read, it sounds like sleep apnea to me, but I’m not sure. It’s very scary though, and I’m afraid to sleep when he does now!
He just said that intermittent breathing is normal, I didn’t describe it like this because I just noticed. But he has a new doctor now anyways
Thank you brianne! I knew my doctor wasn’t crazy when he said that, I had read it online before. It’s never for very long at all, but just as it was with your baby, he wakes up startled. I’m still gonna mention it to his doctor because he was also failure to thrive and I read that is one thing that can cause sleep apnea. Thank you so much again, sounds like I might be worrying for nothing, which I tend to do a lot these days ;)
I was just looking through your questions to see some of the answers, and actually, when I googled sleep apnea to begin with, your question was one that came up!

Yeah that sounds like sleep apnea too me as well.

That IS what sleep apnea is. Snoring and gasping for air.

The doctor who said it’s normal is a moron. I would get a second opinion.

ETA: Good. Nothing is good when a baby is “gasping” for air. Something is not right there. Hope everything goes well!

Question by Jessica M: babies with sleep apnea caused by sleeping with fans?
My husband told me that he read somewhere that if babies sleep with fans all the time or a lot that it will cause them to have sleep apnea. Is this true?

Ear nose and throat? Is there another name for ear nose and throat doctor? They don’t have any listed under my insurance plan.
The GP refuses to give us an appointment. She said it sounds like nothing by my description. I’d like to punch her in the face. I’m gonna go to straight to the specialist. Otolaryngologists is on the list, thanks.
No I don’t know if it’s apnea or not. I’m guessing based on what I have read. It also could be asthma. Because the GP is not helping me figure it out, I’m going straight to the specialist.
I brought him to my chiropractor 2 days ago, and he said it’s just really bad sinuses and allergies. He gave him an adjustment and he’s already breathing better. So far he has done last night, through the night without trouble (I stayed awake watching him) and today’s nap and so far tonight, he’s been breathing.
Thanks to everyone for the help and advice. If it happens again, I’ll talk to an ENT, but so far, it’s looking good. I did make an appointment with the allergist to check on it.
