Im 11 weeks pregnant with twins, my dr sent me for a sleep study because I am so tired and have not been sleeping well. They said that when i get into a deep sleep my oxygen level drops in half. Yjey put a c pap on me for the second half of the test and still didnt see much improvment. Anyone eles had this? Really worried about the babies. I have been so stressed like they need anymore stress.

Why it happens
Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder characterized by loud snoring and brief, involuntary breathing pauses during sleep. (The Greek word apnea means “want of breath.”)

Sleep apnea sufferers may briefly stop breathing and then wake with a gasp, start, or snort as many as a hundred times a night or more. People with sleep apnea rarely remember these episodes in the morning, although they may wonder why they feel so tired all the time.

Obesity is a major risk factor for sleep apnea, and some experts believe that pregnancy may also make you more susceptible, particularly in the third trimester. The heavier you are to begin with and the more weight you gain during pregnancy, the more likely you are to have trouble breathing at night because of the extra tissue in your neck and throat.

Other factors that make you more likely to snore during pregnancy, such as swollen nasal passages, may also put you at a higher risk for sleep apnea. Higher levels of estrogen during pregnancy contribute to swelling in the mucous membranes lining the nose and can even cause you to make more mucus. Also, the amount of blood in your body increases and your blood vessels expand during pregnancy, which can lead to swollen nasal membranes as well.
What you can do about it
If your partner notices that you’re snoring a lot and making periodic snorting or gasping sounds in your sleep, be sure to mention it to your doctor or midwife so you can be evaluated for sleep apnea.

When you periodically stop breathing, the amount of oxygen in your blood drops temporarily. If left untreated, sleep apnea can take a toll on your health, and some research suggests it may affect your baby’s growth as well. Sleep apnea is also linked to high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disorders. And feeling tired during the day increases your risk of falling asleep at work, while you’re driving, or while you’re caring for your other children.

If you’re diagnosed with sleep apnea, you may be given a special mouth guard to wear at night to keep your airway open. If the apnea is severe, your doctor may have you wear a mask that’s hooked up to a machine that provides a steady flow of air while you sleep to help keep you breathing normally. Most people are amazed by how much better they feel during the day soon after they begin using this device at night.

I’m in the Army I have been diagnosed with severe OSA. I have been using a CPAP since January, anyway it doesn’t seem likes its working to well anymore, I wake up feeling like I got hit by a bus, my wife says I still snore. Today I woke up without my mask on and to the fact that I did not hear my alarm go off (I have 2 alarm clocks). Does anyone else have this problem?
please do not suggest anything all natural this a real condition, not something that pseudoscience can cure. I do wear a full fast mask because i am a mouth breather.

Yes… try the nose tape things …I don’t use my machine everynight….

If anyone has ever had the gastric bypass surgery what medical conditions did you have aginst you.

Will insurance cover your surgery automaticlly if you have, Sleep Apnea, High Blood Pressure, Asthma, Joint pain, abd has been over weight all their lifes?

I do know that most insurance plans require 6 months diet plan too and by my DR. the suregery is medically necessary for me to have.

Please help, Thank you!!!

I didn’t have the bypass, but I did have the gastric waistband which is less painful and reversible. Insurance, at least in my country, did not cover it because a) I didn’t have any at the time and b) It was considered (back then about 3 years ago) it wasn’t considered to be for health reasons, more for looking good. I don’t regret it however, because since I’ve had it I have lost about 90 pounds and I’m still losing weight.
There are days when you can’t swallow solids, but most of the time you can eat just about anything except for red meat because if it’s not properly cooked it may too hard.
Anyway, it has totally changed my life, but that’s just me.
My cousin did have the bypass and the weight loss is faster but it takes a toll on your body and it is nonreversible.
You decide what is the best for you, but my advice is to go for the lapband (that’s the medical name for it). Trust me, it will hurt from time to time, but it will definitely be worth it.

mma surgery is sleep apnea surgery. The jaw joint replacement will be TMJ Concepts Custom made. The surgeon is Dr. Larry Wolford. Anyone heard or used him as a doctor? So far, I can’t find anyone that has had both surgeries at the same time. Please help me find someone. THANKS!!!

Last night I stopped breathing and woke up gasping for air. I couldnt’t fall back to sleep. This hasnt happened in awhile, the last time was probably last year. I got tested for this a few years back and the lab said that i have this condition. I’m wondering if i should tell my family that i love each of them in case something happens to me, yet I don’t want to tell them because I don’t want to make them worried.

If it has been confirmed through the lab that you do indeed have sleep apnea than you can get a prescription for a C-pap machine to wear at night. It forces air into your airways to keep them open. This way you are not oxygen deprived and you don’t have to worry about sleep apnea related death.

I recently had surgery and apparently there was difficulty when they extubated me (bronchiospasms) and I was quickly re-intubated and placed on a ventilator. I woke up several times in recovery while intubated and had quite a traumatic experience. I now have so many awful feelings that I can’t deal with and haven’t talked to anyone about. Feelings of panic, fear of suffocation, sleep disturbances, fear of falling asleep, bouts of crying. I have asthma and possibly sleep apnea, so the breathing issue is an ongoing thing with me that I will need to follow-up with a doctor about, but these feelings of terror are invasive and I want to hear from anyone else who has exerpienced this so I don’t feel so crazy.

You’re not crazy. I had a very similar experience. It happened to me after two different surgeries.

Waking up on a ventilator is traumatizing. It was very frightening for me.

You are probably suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. This is a normal reaction to what you’ve experienced.

Aside from the physical pain, you are also having emotional pain. It’s being projected as pervasive fear.

It may be time for you to ask your doctor about a medication for an anxiety disorder. I personally worked these feelings out on my own, but if you feel that it’s actually taking control of your life, then you do need to seek help.

I wish you well. Just remember, if you don’t deal with it, you will not get over it.

well if she has ever drank a lot of alcohol,then it is not a good idea.my cousin had it and it’s been 9 years and now her liver is trying to go out.so if she has a problem with sweets and can’t put them down this might happen to her.or alcohol.me i was going to do it till i found out about the liver thing,and then i decided to have the lapband.

eosinophilic esophagitis, asthma, reflux, ADHD, sensory Integration disorder, and possibly Autism (we’re waiting for an official diagnosis) He also had obstructive sleep apnea as a baby. The reason I’d like to know is I wonder if this is all interrelated some how! Thanks!

My lo is 4yo and she suffers from enlarged tonsils,has sleep apnea,asthma,kidney problems(a lot of UTI.) And because of all these problems I found out she has a brain tumor, Now she gets treatments for. And the medication is causing the other problems. Is the side effects. So it a dam if you do or dam if you don’t thing.

Just asked primary physician for referrel and got denial letter a week later saying that I don’t have severe enough cardiopulmonary disease, diabetes or sleep apnea. That my current high blood pressure and hypo-thyroidism are being managed well with medication.

I have not had this happen to me, but I know a few people who have had the surgery. Whether your insurance company grants you permission to go ahead with surgery, you have to meet their criteria. You need to know exactly what their criteria is, and then speak with your general physician who will try to help you or counsel you against surgery if they don’t think it is reasonable for you at this time.
