Question by Alabaster: My brother is almost 400 lbs and is in his early 20’s. He also has schizophrenia and depression.?
He takes at least 10 pills a day and has to wear a sleep apnea mask (forgot what it’s called). My question is, how to get him to lose weight? He demands fast food and won’t exercise. Can throw fits if you don’t give him the food he wants and it is mostly not healthy what he wants. They are also on a very low budget. Any suggestions?
Medicare doesn’t cover homeopathic doctors though.

Answer by Shelly Saya This is just my opinion but I think many people like your brother can easily benefit from a better way, without prescription drugs. 10 pills a day is way too much. I think one medication is too much. LOL I can understand why he weighs so much. For many of these drugs, one of the side affects is weight gain. Actually, all this weight is just water retention.
But he has to be willing to try another way. Suggect homeopathy and herbalism. I used to take pwsychiatric meds for depression and bi-polar disorder and I am 10 times better today. I have not taken nay medication at all since 2007.

Question by noyb: How do I get some sleep and also protect my nose?
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and I wear a full face mask. Recently I changed masks and started using a new one as is recommended every 3 months. With this new mask, I have had a sore develop on my nose. I have the constant hassle of air leaks interrupting my sleep and the problem of the mask tightned enough to prevent leaks but then making a bleeding sore on the bridge of my nose near the top. I put petroleum jelly on my nose every night and have tried bandaids. Any ideas out there?

Answer by RKANTER Change to a different mask that Is a pressure sore. I could also be the way you have It adjusted.

Question by Jessica G: Taking beta blockers for SVT & I also have Sleep Apnea – Am I risk of Sudden Aryth Death Syndrome?
Please help. I have SVT and I am currently awaiting a further appointment following my test result for sleep apnea.
Can you die of Sudden Arythmic Death Syndrome or Sleep Apnea whilst taking Beta Blockers? Am I at risk?
I take a mild 1.25 mg of bisoprolol beta blocker, as any more than that reduces my blood pressure. (Symptoms of my SVT are very infrequent on medication. Cardiologist recommended ablation butI’m too scared. He stated that SVT is nothing to worry about but the internet suggests otherwise )
I will truly appreciate your advice please!
I am 30, slim and have a healthy lifestyle

Answer by EA Hi I too have SVT and mild sleep apnea, had an ablation done to stop the misdirected signals. You need to stop worrying about it. Since you are seen by cardiologist he or she is following your medical condition. Its called sudden cardiac death syndrome. Your taking beta blockers will help control the SVT’s. Are you watching your sodium/salt intake?? Are you on a breathing machine, CPAP, while sleeping(for sleep apnea)? How is your potassium level? Are you staying hydrated?

Question by : What do you do for restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder. Also have Fibromyalgia.?
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 11 years ago. Prior to that I was diagnosed with Hashmotos hypothyroidism, an auto-immune disease attacking the thyroid. 3 years ago, when trying to DC a med for Fibromyalgia, I learned that I had developed Essential Tremors. Now I’ve moved on to Restless Leg and Periodic Limb movement disorder. I’m dealing with the central nervous system here, and wonder if I don’t have Chronic Lyme, although all tests have been negative. I grew up in the woods of a lyme infested area of PA. I’m dealing with it all, but the lack of sleep associated with Fibromyalgia and the waking from periodic limb movement disorder and minor Sleep Apnea are reaking havoc with my life. Anybody out there dealing with the same mess??? I’m all ears.
Best answer:
Answer by Nightingale www.fmaware.org. Fibromyalgia rarely comes alone, and though the syndrome itself doesn’t have specific treatment, a lot of those nasty additions do have some relief. The bad news-you’ll probably have to deal with them one at a time. The website is all about fibromyalgia and related complications. They will inform you and help you find a knowledgeable doctor in your area. Best of luck!

Question by the ~maiden~ xanz: Does anyone else suffer from “Sleep paralysis”? Also called Hypnogogic Hallucinations?
I experience this just as I am falling asleep. I also have “lucid dreams” (where I can control the content of my dreams) and have since I was a child and they often happen together, especially when over tired. But the SP is terrifying as I seem to actually be awake, accurately perceiving the conditions around me (who is in the room, time of day, etc.) but also feel extreme terror and cannot wake. I always feel that if I could move, I could wake up, but of course that’s the problem. I’m told by some that this is actually a desired state by many as a step toward an OBE – which I think is garbage. But my question is how do I stop them? Is there some way to end them? I suffer from chronic pain – don’t say get more sleep – quite obvious, I need something else.I’ve tried to remember to BREATHE when it happens, being told that a lack of oxygen may be part of the problem, but was unable to make it work. Did try a new pillow, to keep my neck straight, in case apnea was it. HELP?
OMG…yes, i also have PTSD, but only quite slight, due to a severe childhood assault, but it’s quite far in the past and very well dealt with. Have had every kind of “scan” known to man – all normal and even a psychiatrist is somewhat baffled, tho he has seen it before. i do have sleep meds – i’m on the strongest dose of Chloral hydrate allowed, and i’m opiate dependent due to spinal disease – but the lucid dreams and the SP started as a child – long before any of these other problems. The drugs are on a very strict dosage and never vary (tho i rarely use the sleep meds), but the dream cycles do.
And if you peeked at my 360 page and made a judgment that my life was stressful by what you saw there, you would be quite wrong. A will liked, gentle artist, i enjoy the very limited company i choose very much – they also enjoy me (*wink). Sooooo…anything else?
Oh, and WILD, i also have to get up and move once i do awake or it does happen over and over all night, tho i don’t have the pins and needles but that might confirm what i heard about lack of oxygen (circulation, apnea even?).
And I’m sorry Sun T, but as an educated woman (a BSW) I have bothered to study this condition as well as the basic benefits of sleep. The site you were so kind to point to is about children and sleep and just the very basic information on what sleep is and how one goes about getting it. Your answer is simplistic almost to the point of being insulting. Perhaps you were trying to help, but there is more information in my question than your answer. I am looking for personal experience from someone with the same problem, not an oversimplified insult to my intelligence.

Answer by Mark B I have sleep paralysis for many years now. Never saw a doctor. But most of the time they come from high stress factors. So and try take a break if can. If you don’t think it is that, see a doctor, for sleep meds. As for I self medicate, with booze. or any CNS depressent helps me.
