Question by Alabaster: My brother is almost 400 lbs and is in his early 20’s. He also has schizophrenia and depression.?
He takes at least 10 pills a day and has to wear a sleep apnea mask (forgot what it’s called). My question is, how to get him to lose weight? He demands fast food and won’t exercise. Can throw fits if you don’t give him the food he wants and it is mostly not healthy what he wants. They are also on a very low budget. Any suggestions?
Medicare doesn’t cover homeopathic doctors though.

This is just my opinion but I think many people like your brother can easily benefit from a better way, without prescription drugs. 10 pills a day is way too much. I think one medication is too much. LOL I can understand why he weighs so much. For many of these drugs, one of the side affects is weight gain. Actually, all this weight is just water retention.

But he has to be willing to try another way. Suggect homeopathy and herbalism. I used to take pwsychiatric meds for depression and bi-polar disorder and I am 10 times better today. I have not taken nay medication at all since 2007.

Question by St. Louis Cardinals Fan: sleep apnea and almost 20 years old?
So I am almost 20 years old, 5′9″ and 140 pounds and I think I may have sleep apnea.. I don’t snore, just a heavy breather in my sleep, but last August when I was at my friend’s house she woke me up in the middle of the night because I was gasping for breath. Then last month I woke up in the middle of the night gasping for breath, the worst feeling ever. Then last night my boyfriend woke me up because he said I stopped breathing three times and then finally I started gasping for breath.. Is this early signs of sleep apnea or something else? Isn’t it pretty abnormal for someone my age to have it? LIke I said, I’m not overweight and I’m not snoring. I know I should probably go for a sleep test but I wanted to see if there is anything else it could be. Thanks!

As I understand, deep-sleep apnea is typically associated with obesity and becomes acute during early or late middle age. Onset may be earlier, if the patient had gained too much weight too early.

What really happens is that brain of a complex organism needs rest. Its part that control and regulate vital functions never take a rest. Relatively less important functions are suspended for a while. One of these functions is muscle control. That’s why muscles go limp during deep sleep, including epiglottis that, when active, regulates what should go to the alimentary canal and what is meant to go into trachea.

Muscles that have collected too much flab or overgrown get sucked into trachea, temporarily blocking passage of air to the lungs, thereby waking up the parts of brain to send distressed commands to the unruly muscles. People suffering from deep-sleep apnea risk death due to asphyxiation during sleep.

At your age it is rather unheard of. By the way, you have not given your weight and BMI. Mild snoring may be normal or maybe precurssor of deep-sleep apnea

Please consult a good physicion.

Each and every night i sleep at no earlier than 5 am, coz i can’t. (i wake up late so i sleep ok) I actually have a fear of sleeping i find hard to explain: everytime i try to sleep i keep thinking about what happens when my mind goes to rest, and i freak out. This problem caused a new one to form where i am afraid of not being able to sleep everytime i try, which leaves me lying around for long periods of time. Sometimes, i even have nightmares about seeing myself asleep, and knowing that I am dreaming, yet i am stuck in this dream and i cannot wake up. Eventually i do wake up (in my dream) then i fall back asleep uncontrollably so it feels like I’m trapped! Any ideas plz?
