Question by Brandi M: can a concussion cause permanent sleep disorder?
i got a concussion 2 years ago and ever since, i’ve noticed weird things happening when i sleep. the bigest thing is when i’m trying to wake up…. i open my eyes and i’m paralized, at this point i’m freaking out. i know what going on and i keep trying to calm myself down but it’s no use. after about 2 or 3 minutes i’m able to move and i’m fully awake. can someone please help me? this happens at least 2 times a week it’s getting to the point where i don’t even want to sleep.

ps: i’ve noticed if i don’t sleep as much it doesn’t happen
my concussion was really bad.. i fell out of a tree, head first.. i should be dead

I would think it would take an extremely severe concussion to cause side effects after this much time has passed. definetly get checked out by a doc. This shouldn’t be happening. If you are at the point where you cannot move at all after waking up, it is something to be concerned about.

Question by Cindy F: My 3 1/2 year old son has suddenly in the past week had a huge behavior and other changes.?
He has severe sleep apnea and he has a few learning disorders they think relate to that. Otherwise he is the sweetest happiest child ever! In the past week his slur has gotten worse, he has been peeing beside the toilet instead of in it, and he has been having freakouts. Like the other day we got a ride home from a friend from the comissary and he panicked. Like screaming and kicking and scratching me. He’s never done that. Then the other day I was going to leave him with a friend to go to the doctor and he did the same to her so I took him. He stays home with me, and is never away so its not a problem of a sitter or etc. This is sudden like I said and I don’t understand what has happened. I’m thinking maybe its a medical cause but then again idk if its something mental either. His attacks are quite violent and then go away after some time and he’s back to normal again.
What is psychosis?
He isn’t my first child and I am fully aware of what fit pitching is when it comes to that. I have a full understanding of raising children and their actions as they grow. This is an unusual thing for my son, and not a normal fit. Has nothing to do with crying or screaming for certain things. Along with that you’d have to explain the slurring and sudden potty change as a fit as well? I wouldn’t. My son has had some serious health issues his whole life and as his mother I can say this new sudden change in him isn’t a part of his growing age.

Get him treatment for his apnea. Also get him a therapist who can help him understand what’s going on with him.
Apnea deprives the brain of oxygen and disrupts sleep. Lack of sleep can cause psychosis.

Your primary care doctor might make a referral to a sleep clinic. They can determine whether you have a sleep disorder.

Question by : I think I might have sleep apnea?
Ok, before anyone tells me to go the doctors, my dad is making an appointment for me to see one on Monday. And I know it can be “potentially serious if left untreated” but I can’t see one tomorrow or Sunday because they’re closed on weekends.

I’m 15, not overweight but I have asthma. I think I might have sleep apnea because occasionally (about 1 or 2 times a month) I wake up in the middle of the night bolting from my bed gasping for air.And the second before I do that, its like the sensation of drowing. (also, if you have sleep apnea did you have this before being diagnosed?) It makes me worried sick thinking that I’m not breathing during sleep…
I’m also a hypochondriac, a type of anxiety or health phobia, so becuase some websites say it can increase the risk of heart failure, depression heart attack etc, it makes me worried sick!
Do you think I might have it? It’s been happening for like the past 2 or 3 months, but I wasn’t concerned with it until now. I don’t seem to have any other symptoms, sometimes I’m really tired during the day if I stay up late but that’s all else I can think of.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime before seeing my doc?
Thanks!

Its sounds like it has to do with your nose if im correct its called Adnoids its something inside your nostrils when you sleep they open and close, but in your case they dont open so u get that drowning feeling during sleep. Maybe you having asthma is triggering it. No there isnt nothing else you can do but go and see the dr.if anything youll need surgery to correct it. But youll fine afterwards and sleeping like a baby all night.Good Luck and dont be scared.:)

Question by Alabaster: My brother is almost 400 lbs and is in his early 20’s. He also has schizophrenia and depression.?
He takes at least 10 pills a day and has to wear a sleep apnea mask (forgot what it’s called). My question is, how to get him to lose weight? He demands fast food and won’t exercise. Can throw fits if you don’t give him the food he wants and it is mostly not healthy what he wants. They are also on a very low budget. Any suggestions?
Medicare doesn’t cover homeopathic doctors though.

This is just my opinion but I think many people like your brother can easily benefit from a better way, without prescription drugs. 10 pills a day is way too much. I think one medication is too much. LOL I can understand why he weighs so much. For many of these drugs, one of the side affects is weight gain. Actually, all this weight is just water retention.

But he has to be willing to try another way. Suggect homeopathy and herbalism. I used to take pwsychiatric meds for depression and bi-polar disorder and I am 10 times better today. I have not taken nay medication at all since 2007.
