20 years old… I am having a sleep study at the end of the month and my doctor is pretty sure I have sleep Apnea, as I am tired all the time and snore really badly. But for the past 4-5 years Ive been experiencing really bad depression and anxiety. This past year has been the worse, as I moved to a new state and my anxiety has turned into what might be social anxiety. I feel nervous and paranoid around people. Always thinking they don’t like me and that they are talking bad about me. Do you think the sleep apnea could have caused this, as I’ve had this sleep problem since I was a child.

    When we are deprived of sleep, it can cause many different problems. It’s good you are seeing about your sleep disorder, I think once they can solve that, you will most likely see your symptoms deminish.

    Yeah i do think it could cause the depression and anxiety. I dont get to sleep alot maybe 3 or 4 hours a day and i am depressed and anxious when i dont get sleep. when i get like 8 or more for two days in a row i am fine though

    Yes! sleep apnea and a lack of sleep can cause depression and or anxiety.

    Sleep disorders can cause anxiety and depression to a certain extent as your brain doesn’t have the time to relax and recharge from each day. What you are describing sounds like borderline paranoia though. I would speak to your physician and explain how you are feeling. You might have a slightly more serious condition.

    Sleep apnea to my knowledge does not cause anxiety or depression. However if you are not getting enough sleep it can increase your anxiety. One of the possible symptoms of depression is wanting to sleep a lot or having a difficult time falling asleep.
    Sleep apnea can cause excessive fatigue during the day possibly causing you to fall asleep at unsafe times, it increases the work load on your heart which could eventually cause problems.
    Maybe once you start getting a more sound sleep some of your anxiety will start to dissipate.

    I think that your Doctor should have recommended you already to a good psychiatrist/psychologist and/or counselor to work on these things outside the study. Depression and anxiety could definitely be part of the problem and with proper medications it could help with the sleep problem. Talk to your doctor and get recommended and don’t waste time.     yup, it happened to me too… i couldnt sleep right, so i would feel tired, so tired that i would stop doing the stuff i would usually do, so that got me sad cuz i wouldnt do anything, i got a depression basicly cuz i dumped my gf cuz i was geting all emo and she woulndt understand me, and then at night when i would try to get some sleep, i would think about a lot of stuff. and that got me all angry and stuff… welll i end up wit anxiety…
