Most likely. And because humanity is fatter today than it was before.

  2. Mary says:

It might. It depends on the reason for the obstruction. Thin people can have OSA as well. It is important to use CPAP or other treatment until a sleep study confirms no sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea isn’t always directly related to weight. Being overweight can definitely make it worse. Generally, losing weight will decrease the amount of Cpap pressure required but doesn’t usually mean you will no longer have it. Only a sleep study will provide that information. The reason it is so prominently diagnosed now, is that extensive research has been done proving that it has very significant impact on heart failure among many many other illnesses. It has been researched since the 60’s. We have come a very long way with the diagnosis and what it can cause later in life. Way back when…. snoring and such was considered by most a normal occurrence. Now we know better. :) Good Luck with your treatment.
If you lose a significant amount of weight: 20 to 30 pounds…You should have another sleep study performed to see if you can utilize less cpap pressure or if you are within normal limits without it. That is the only way to find out if you still need it. They can do a split night study on you….first couple hours without the cpap to see if you still need it. Good luck.

First, to answer your question, yes, in all likelihood it will clear up.
In previous times women thought that it was their lot in life to have to put up with a snoring husband who wakes up groggy and bad tempered. More people are getting tested for it today and it has improved the quality of life for so many to know that there is a solution.
Anyway, ask your doctor to refer you to a sleep center in your area.
