I have sleep apnea and I was wondering if there are ways to cure/treat it without anything drastic like surgery or expensive machinery. Help please!

Probably not. The machinery is difficult to get used to and insurance my not cover the cost. The surgery may not work. I have known people for whom it did work and others it did not. The CPAP machine seems to work the best unless you are like me and can’t stand having that damn mask on your face. Even with strong sleep meds I can’t handle it. Oh, my kingdom for a nights sleep.

Some of the following self-help treatments for sleep apnea may work for you.

    1 . Lose Weight
Overweight individuals who lose even 10% of their weight can reduce sleep apnea and improve sleep quality.

2 . Stop using alcohol, tobacco and sedatives
Relaxes the muscles of the throat and encourages snoring

3 . Sleep on your side
Special pillows or remedies that encourage side-sleeping such as the “tennis ball trick,” might help people who only experience sleep apnea when they sleep on their back

4 . Elevate the head of your bed 4 -6 inches
This can alleviate snoring and make breathing easier

It’s too bad that you can’t tolerate the CPAP machine. I think you already know that CPAP is the most effective treatment for sleep apnea; however, it’s too difficult to have a mask on your face while you sleep and a pressurized air blowing in your face.

I won’t tell you about surgery for sleep apnea, because I see that you already know about it and you don’t want it. Good for you!

Now, I’m wonder how severe is your sleep disorder? If you have a mild or moderate sleep apnea, then you can have some good alternatives. But if you have a severe sleep apnea, I can’t guarantee that these alternatives will work.

Besides the CPAP alternatives, which may not be so effective like CPAP, there is a very good option to treat sleep apnea if the main cause is obesity. So, my advice if you are obese: lose your weight!
