How do you cure sleep apnea without a breathing machine?

My boyfriend has no insurance. He cannot afford a machine. He wakes tired from this condition and he is a carpenter. Hard work with power tools. I worry about him.

My husband has the same thing and we tried everything but unfortunately the only thing that truly works is the machine. try finding a doctor that will work out a payment plan with him

Losing weight is the only long-term solution, outside of the CPAP.

you can’t cure sleep apnea even with a cpap machine. what you can do is get a uppp operation by a ent specialist or lose weight and do not drink alcohol before sleep. do not sleep flat on your back either. those things will help but you are right to be concerned.

I do not think there is a cure, but studies show that learning to play a didgeridoo can help to ease the severity of sleep apnea. Check out the accompanying link.

Look, sleep apnea is serious stuff, and could lead to major illness. Try to find a free clinic, or reset your priorities. But he should be diagnosed in a sleep lab and the CPAP system is, by far, the best solution.
OK, so you don’t or think you cant follow this advice? Then go to the pharamcy and buy a pack of those tape devices designed to spread the nostril channels for easier breathing. Get him some nasal spray like Afrin or Sinex but be careful, frequent usage can cause a rebound effect that could only complicate this. In the end, he really needs CPAP.

Sleep apnea seems to be the new disease of the year. It was fibromyalgia for a couple years and adult ADD and ADHD.
This year it is the sleep apnea. I am sure some people suffer from this. But, I also think it is being over diagnosed as the others mentioned above have been.
I was diagnosed with it also. Thru tests of my own I discovered the problem was my PILLOW. I can only sleep with one pillow under my head, not two or three. Problem solved…………..
I would look at your boyfriend’s symptoms again. If he truly has sleep apnea, he should be able to get help some where.

the cpap machine therapist and respiralogist said there is no medical cure for sleep apnea. sleep apnea is caused by relaxation of throat muscle. avoid taking sedative medication and exercise more.

My husband and his cousin have sleep apnea. While my husband’s isn’t bad enough for him to need the machine, his cousin’s is. Those who need the machine have it pretty bad and it would probably be best for him to try to get some type of insurance. I know this may sound extreme but maybe he should go to the Department of Public Welfare and try and apply for free or low cost medical coverage because Sleep Apnea can be a dangerous thing. On the flip side my husband lost weight and his bouts of sleep apnea have decreased. If your boyfriend is overweight, he should also try losing some of the extra pounds and this may help.
