One doctor told someone I know that if the neck is over 17 inches then you have sleep apnea.

    that maybe the case but i think it’s more of the case of how propotioned your body maybe. i highly doubt that u have sleep apnea though.

    It doesn’t always mean that you have sleep apnea. It means you are prone to it. I doubt the doctor meant that it ALWAYS means you have sleep apnea. If you suspect you have it, you can go to the local sleep clinic.

    I am sure that having a large neck might add to the constriction of the air flow, but it is not the only factor! There are many, many factors for sleep apnea. Obesity, nasal constrictions, anxiety, depression, and many other factors that can interfere with your sleep. The best solution is to see a specialist in the area of sleep study. Why not take a sleep apnea test?

    If the person with the neck size larger than 17 inches is overweight, then it’s true. The fat from the neck can obstruct the airway, so he will have breathing problems is sleep.

    In general, men and women with large neck size: 17 inches or more for men, 16 inches or more for women, have a “good chance” to have sleep apnea.
