My mind won’t let me rest. Seconds after closing my eyes I have to open them again due to the revolution of thoughts in my head… and when I’m finally exhausted enough to able to sleep, I dream… I dream all the time, thus waking up feeling like I didn’t rest at all.
I’m down to 4-6 hours to sleep daily, and less than 2 hours on the worst nights. I tried sleeping days, but I get just as much or even less rest.
I never slept much to begin with, being a light sleeper and having a tendency to sleep days and haunt at nights, but my resistance is giving in, my body is giving up.
I’ve been awake for nearly 48 hours now… I’ll try anything as long as it has nothing to do with pills or drugs.
Is there a safe natural way to relax enough to be able to rest? A way to suppress my dreams?

As far as the onslaught of thoughts at bed time, try keeping a note pad by your bed and write down some things that are really bothering you that you want to think about more the next day, or things you need to remember to do. Vanilla is suppose to relax and make people sleepy, so get a spray scent (like Bath and Body Works) and spray your pillow/sheets. If you are trying to sleep with complete silence/ lots of noises, try the opposite. I can’t get sleep in silence, but a TV or radio puts me out like a baby. Are you exercising? Try walking some during the day. Exercise releases endorphins and will calm you down and make you happier. It may also tire you out a bit more. As far as dreams go, I don’t know of anyway to supress them, although someone I know went to a pyschiatrist for horrible dreams and has rarely had dreams since.

Get rid of all caffeine. But be careful cause there’s lots of stuff that contains caffeine, including chocolate. So all that stuff outta your diet will relax your muscles and mind. Give it a month and see how it works. Plus, read your Bible. There’s true peace found in there!

I have had the same problem all my life. I still need help some times (ambien) but here is what helps me. I listen to a story on my ipod when I am going to sleep. I use the earbuds that came with it because they will fall out easily once I’m asleep. Actually I listen to the same interesting novel most of the time– just interesting enough to hold my attention and calm those voices but on the other hand, I already know what happens.
    Good luck!

Natural sleep aids don’t work so good. If you are so deprived of sleep, getting a prescription from your doctor for a good sleep medication will help. Remember, it’s not something you have to take on a daily basis, only as needed. That will help you catch up and feel better. Then, try taking a hot bath with only candles lit to help you relax, and then read a very boring book (the bible, or chemistry, etc.) That will guarantee make your eyes sleepy. My son swears by meditation. Now what not to do . . . don’t watch TV or go on the computer at least 1 hour prior to bedtime as this will stimulate your mind. And as you probably already know, no caffeine after noontime, no foods high in sugar and if noises wake you up, use a fan for a soothing background noise (this is what I do). I also have insomnia so good luck and Happy New Years!

There are certain types of music that you can listen to. It’ll calm you, or distract you (take your mind off of things). There are NATURAL pills you can take.. found at local drugstores, but I don’t know how effective they are.
Try clearing your mind when you go to bed. You’ve got time… Try concentrating on nothing (works for me). I have a similar problem… takes me an hour sometimes to fall asleep, ’cause I keep thinking. Just concentrate on falling asleep, rather than on other things.
    Good luck!

Fight a sleeping disorder? Somehow fighting doesn’t sound like a good solution. Ok your head is constantly working overtime. Sounds like you just think too much. I bet your on the computer all night long. I know of a very simple cure for your problem. Have you heard of mantra meditation? It will teach your mind how to relax. It removes the stress that triggers the never ending flow of thoughts. This is a very natural way to relieve your poor tired brain of all the thought that are keeping you awake. See if you can find someone in your area who will teach you how to do it. It’s very simple, but I would suggest finding a teacher.

Do not drink tea or coffee in the afternoon. Do not drink liquids in the evening so that you don’t have to go to the bathroom at night. Also do not eat citrus fruits as they are diuretics. Read a light magazine in bed. Do not sleep with another person in the same bed, when others turn it will wake you up. When you wake up in the middle of the night, say some prayers till you sleep. This will take away disturbing thoughts. Check medicens you take at night, some cause alertness.

You can try a blend of calcium and magnesium called cal-mag. It is a natural seditive. You can also go to your local health food store or online and get Calm. Mix it with warm water and lay down. I only use natural remedies on myself and my children and these work wonders. It is way better than OTC meds. Good luck.
