I am 26 yr old male and have been having a hard time sleeping. Even if I am tired, I cant fall asleep until like 5am. When I try to go to sleep before then, I have weird hallucinations invovling random things like politics or other things I may have seen on tv. I take melatonin, but it seems not to be working much anymore. I wont take medication..Any advice as to what this can be> Thank you.

1] Establish a healthy sleep schedule going to bed the same time every night.
2] Read or watch a tv show before bed to relax.
3] In addition to melatonin take a calcium citrate(500 mg)/magnesium citrate (500 mg) pill an hour before bed along with a small snack of protein with carbohydrate.
4] Keep the room on the cool side when you sleep.
5] Don’t drink coffee, soda or take stimulant 4 hours before bed.
6] Cardio exercise every day (30 minutes) helps a lot.
7] Finish supper no later than 3 hours to bedtime.

Just a thought on the hallucinations – whenever I have taken melatonin, I have insane dreams, and that is why I won’t take it. I know so many people love it, but I would rather not sleep than have those dreams – I don’t feel well-rested after them anyway.
