Insomnia is a common problem that results not only in personal frustration and discomfort, but also is associated with decreased work performance, lost productivity, accidents, and hospitalization. . Insomnia is not a disease, but a symptom, meaning that it is secondary to another physical or mental disorder, depression, anxiety, and mental stress. It can be caused by an underlying sleep disorder , or might be brought on by something as simple as a change in schedule, a stressful event at work, or an afternoon cup of coffee. Insomnia is probably the most common sleep-related complaint among women and men across all stages of adulthood along with daytime drowsiness. Insomnia is very common in psychological conditions such as depression or anxiety. A sudden unexpected stress such as a job loss or death in the family may also cause sleepless nights. For many, the problem is not episodic but chronic. While insomnia is typically a symptom, it can also be a disorder with complex and, likely, multiple causes.
Modern technology has provided us with a drug-free way to cure insomnia that is called binaural beats. Binaural beats are a way of listening with headphones to differential frequencies which can induce the brain to reduce itself gradually through slower frequency ranges that can result in deep sleep.
