I have only been getting about 3-4 hrs. of sleep for the past 3 months. I’m 13 and I know how much sleep your supposed to get when your a teen. Now i’m starting to show symptoms of sleep loss the first is #1 I always fall asleep in the middle of school even if were doing something interesting, I can’t help it. #2 I’m doing really bad in gym which I used to be good at. #3 When I come home I always lay on my bed watch tv, read, go on the computer, etc. and fall asleep and it’s really hard to wake up. #4 I’ve been thinking really weird things, and i’m imagining, seeing, and sometimes even hearing things. I’m afraid of things that i’ve never been afraid of. I have also been crying because im always so sleepy. Some say that things that happened in the past can result in sleep disorders, even if they are not scary. If this is true then my dad had a brain tumor which messed up his brain 4 yrs ago. I have never known why but the sleeping has always made me feel scared and venerable when i’m in bed and it feels like if I close my eyes when I open them there will be something scary right in my face. Now that i’m imagining this stuff is just scaring me more and when I try to sleep it’s really hard. What does this sound like to you?

Sounds like you have alot of anxiety over things. Not a disorder as such like depression but more to do with external stimuli, say if you’re starting school or moving to a new suburb. Puberty can also be a cause of this aswell. Poor fitness aswell.
Or it may be a type of chronic fatigue syndrome. If you’ve had glandular fever recently, it may trigger off sporadic moments of fatigue during your day
If it’s none of the above, then try this. Force yourself to stay awake, if you ever feel fatigue coming on, do something to counter it like have food or a can of cola, and move around too and dont remain still.
Other thing to do at night to help you force yourself asleep is to read a book or do a crossword/sudoku. If you forget about trying to fall asleep and concentrate on reading and using your mental energies, you’d be suprised how quickly you begin to drift off. Force yourself to sleep by concentrating on staying awake. I got that from the film ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and I wish I knew it earlier. It really works, try it.

well … it nothin with ur dads tumour but it sounds like you need to take a weekend tire ur self out and just try to go to sleep. You might be scared of death at ur age when u should be living ur life to the fullest

sleep with the light on. im 23 and i still do it but im no longer afraid of the dark and seeing things i dint want to see. but it also sounds like you may insomnia and are seriously lacking sleep which is causing this fear to wreak even more havoc and causing you to hallucinate. it Sounds like a cycle. if need be, go to your doctor and he can prescribe you some sleep medications and maybe melatonin since it is believed to be the chemical in our body that controls sleep rhythm.
