Adopted Child Sleep Disorder?
Posted by: Alan in Sleep Disorder, tags: Adopted, Child, Disorder, Sleep
We recently adopted a child from Russia in April. He is now 2 years old. Everynight he continues to rock himself to sleep quite aggressively. However, his demenor during waking hours is calm and pleasent. How do we break the rocking habit?
Thank you.

Oh, boy have i seen this before. Since he is 2 years old, i would suggest rocking him in your arms and offering sips of warmed, sweetened milk. Sing to him and run your fingers through his hair – touch him as much as you can in a loving, mothering way.
At this age and with a Russian adoption, he needs to be cradled to sleep in his mother’s arms.

My daughter clasps her hands together, and squeezes her legs sometimes when she’s tired. It’s just a comfort mechanism. Eventually with your love and support, he will grow out of it. Congrats on the new addition to your family!

i am an adopted child so i think the good way is to make him feel save and happy.why dont you try rub his back more often.give him something that he can hug like a teddybear or any toys that will make him company.

Try holding him until he falls asleep, or gently rocking him yourself and slowly reduce this as he gets used to his new home.

Lack of sleep in children can cause serious
health problems. If parents follow some simple
techniques for making their children sleep,
it can be avoided. I found useful information

Establish a bedtime routine that will become familiar and give him a safe sense of security. An example: bath/teeth, story/song, tucking in, or even a nice massage with lavender bedtime lotion. Be patient and loving, he may be scared, and unsure that this is his permanent home.
