Sleep Disorder Or Adhd? ?
Posted by: Alan in Sleep Disorder, tags: Adhd, Disorder, Sleep
Every night it takes at least an hour, 4 hours tops to get to sleep. Constently i have thoughts racing in my mind and recall memories of the past. i cant get my mind to stop thinking about these things and go to sleep. its not bad things, i usually am laughing remember all the good times. i have adhd, mostly inattentive but occasionally hyperactivity and my legs do move a lot when im in bed. i shift around a lot to. is this a sleeping disorder or just adhd?
by the way I’ve also been known to sleep talk and sleep walk if that has any importance. oh, and breath oddly

Neither. You just have a lot going on in your mind and too much energy in your body (not ADHD related). Days where there’s stuff racing through my mind I can’t sleep either.
The medications for ADHD can also cause sleeplessness as they’re basically medical meth.
Simple solution: Use up that energy. Do you go to the gym much? Work out for about an hour a day. Half of that workout should be running. The more strenuous, the more energy you’re burning. It’s been proven to help people get to sleep faster and sleep more deeply. I’ll do about an hour and a half to two hours a day of a kick butt cardio workout. It heeps me healthy and I’m able to sleep well at night!
I would avoid things like sleep aids. Chemical sleep isn’t as good as a regular night’s sleep. Ever take NyQuil and wake up in the morning feeling tired and groggy? That’s from the chemical sleep.
If you do that for a few weeks and it still doesn’t work, talk to a doctor about it.
Another solution (I like the exercise one better) is to read before going to bed or while sitting in bed. I prop myself up at night and read for an hour or two (less when school is in session). Reading will help clear your mind of the days events. Get a really interesting book! This one is going to sound stupid, but it’s good I promise. Look for “The Accidental Time Machine.” Another good one is “Under the Wolf, Under the Dog.”
