I started experiencing this weird thing, of what I believe is a sleep disorder, about 3yrs ago. Its kind of hard to explain, but I am going to do my best. My problem is that when I lay down, and began to fall asleep, i suddenly wake up startled. Sometimes it can go on for a few minutes, until I am finally able to go to sleep. I went to the ER about it awhile back, and was told by the ER doc, that I need to stop drinking soda so much. Back then, I was drinking about 5-10 pepsi’s a day. Now I am done to about 1-2 a week, and I now it rarely happens. But now when it happens I cant help but worry about my health. Is this a sleep disorder, or something else?

Don’t know about it being a sleep disorder, but I often do that when I am very tired. If you are really concerned about it and it is a problem, there are Sleep Disorder clinics all around the country now. Check with your doctor or local hospital and see where there is one in your area. They are the places that evaluate and treat sleep disorders.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress,
dietary and medical problems. By making
small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly,
insomnia can be cured. I found the information
    at http://www.nosleep.in/insomniacause.html

I try to be in bed by 12 at the latest
I drink hot chocolate and try to relax at least an hour before bed Lights out.
sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

Cut out all caffeine and try (Homeopathic) Nux Vomica.
Buy it in a 30C strength. Take 1 tablet 3 times a day for 3 days.

nah, i think it’s not related to coffeine or sth. you said when you fell asleep suddenly you wake up startled! I have experience like yours and I went and told a Dr, and exactly dr said just like what your Dr said to you! now I have no problem and I drink soda whiskey….too. but i sleep well. that’s why i said it’s not related to soda or any drinks.
Do you eat any tablets like Tramadol or sth???
they can bring sleep disorder and nightmare too…
any way you must be checked by a Dr to see your conditions completely.
