I often get a strangling sensation when I am asleep … but it is accompanied by my wife shouting “STOP SNORING”
Seriously, there is a sleep clinic shown on TV recently from PAPWORTH HOSPITAL

No, I have not experienced this but I have seen a documentary about people who have this problem and it looks terrifying! I think you should go to your doctor, who might be able to refer you to someone who can help you. Good luck!
There is some information here that might be useful, but I think getting specialist help would be best:http://www.tees.ac.uk/sections/studentsu…

Specifically, it could be a condition known as sleep paralysis. I’ve experienced this myself, like a heavy weight bearing down on me but I couldn’t move.
The person is actually awake (not dreaming as is the common perception) and this is often accompanied by hallucinations.

if something extream bad happened in your past, it could be causing this…i suggest to go to the doctor and try and see if they can find a medication that is right for this…even if nothing bad happened. you dont need to be feeling like that, and try to not eat sweets and suger before going to bed!!
